  1. by sticking to a deadline instead of moving it back 3 times.

at this point in the game, the fan base would support tt taking a firm "sorry, brett, we really do have to know" stance. doesn't mean you cut brett. simply means you start saying "at this point we have to prepare our team as if brett isn't going to be here."

this isn't as "impossible" to handle as some here are making it out to be.

TT is going to be the person that forced Favre to retire. :(

Automatically lose any free agents that would come to play with Favre. :D :D

That would be the stupidest thing that a GM could ever do. TT would be run out of town faster than Brett Favre would have been run out of town if he played for the tough Detroit media :D <------Actual Sampdog quote..

That you and Walter are using this situation to blast TT shows you are grasping at straws.

Sampdog: It's clear that you just like to argue.

You do entertain me when you aren't annoying me.

  2. there is scant evidence to this point that tt is going even a mediocre job. you can argue that more time is needed. fine. but his tenure so far has been completely underwhelming.

According to who? Sampdog the Packer hater

I'll take that as a good sign. Undoubtable that Packers had 17 horrible drafts in a row, according to Sampdog the Packer hater, but somehow didn't have a losing season, numerous division titles, 2 Super Bowl appearances, and one Lombardi Trophy.

Likewise, according to Sampdog, the Lions have had 43 great drafts and great young talent every year. Unfortunately, the Lions have only melded that awesome talent and great drafting into 7 winning seasons over that span

You have no credibility on the subject because you are inevitable clouded by your incessant Packerhating. Millen is terrible. If you want to argue Sherman, you have some ammunition. TT has inherited Sherman's mess. Only a Packer hater can say he's doing a terrible job at this point.

  3. i guess we lion fans hope tt stays in green bay, too.

    Based on what??

I know somebody insulted your "draft guru :D " <------ actual Sampdog quote; but you have to have a better reflexive comeback than that.

What has TT done so far making him comparable in any way to Millen? He's no Sherman, but let's give him a chance. :P

  4. Hoffdaddy has tainted his legacy in my eyes

Where are you coming with that anti-Favre hippie commie crap?

Whats next? You gonna tell us that you don't support the troops? :o

I do agree that Favre is playing this out way too much. But I don't think he's having that much effect on free agency. If anything, he's keeping some good corners from signing with NFC North teams because they are unsure of whether they'll be able to pad their interception stats if he returns.

  5. okay, here's a legit question for packer fans:

do you really want favre back at this point?

Ideally, the Packers would trade for Joey Harrington, take five years to realize that he is one of the worst QBs in the history of the NFL, and ruin all of the great offensive talent we have assembled getting top picks year after year after year by continuing to let him play

Favre is a decent QB. If he can get in a situation where the Packers can run the ball (with Green and Davenport coming back or Gado to continue improving; which he should do because he was extremely green last year) and the o-line shored up, I believe that Favre can be a marginal QB. He'll be no Eric Hipple or Charlie Batch, but good enough to move the chains. If the Packers top-10 defense continues to improve and they draft well from their super-high position, the Packers could be alright.

Lots of ifs, but we'll see. Still would rather have him here than gone, regardless.

  6. I have been on a faraway island for about a year with no Internet.

Last Viking discussion on this board around that time last year was whether they were going to win the Super Bowl by 30 or 40 points with all of their great off-season pickups and how the loss of Moss was the greatest thing to ever happen to the franchise.

    How'd that work out? :ninja:

Also. Did the Packers win their 4th straight division title??

    TIA!!!

    LODASM!!

  7. stick with South Minneapolis (stay south of Lake Street & west of Lyndale Ave)

Poor Carrie missed that cutoff by miles

    Highway to the Danger Zone

    Ride into the Danger Zone

Bring your Bears parka. Minneapolis is about 25 degrees cooler than Chicago. :ninja:

  8. Personally, I think it's a good idea that the Packers asked him for his decision soon. As good as Favre has been, NFL football is a business, and like any business, you can't have one guy stringing along the franchise/company (owners, coaches, players, fans, etc.) every year (regardless of how good Favre once was or still is).

Here's a question that I'm curious to hear some answers about (a question, btw, whose answer I'm unsure of myself):

Why do some QBs get the reputation of being "gunslingers" while other QBs get the reputation of being foolish/stupid/too risky/etc.???

Looking strictly at last season (and not over the course of a career), Favre threw 29 INTs and lots of people say, "Well...he's a gunslinger." Aaron Brooks threw 17 INTs and most say he's foolish or a bad decision-maker or whatever. Now, I am NOT saying that Brooks and Favre are equally talented QBs with equally successful careers (that would be just plain stupid to suggest). HOWEVER, how come some players are excused (and even praised) for being "gunslingers" while other players (who display some of the same questionable decision making skills) are criticized as being bad QBs???

Again...I don't know the answer to that...just curious what you guys think...

Unfortunately, you can't just look at one season in a vacuum. Nobody does that. So a person who owns almost every freakin' record in the book, 3 MVPs, will more likely be a "gunslingler" rather than say a hack like Aaron Brooks who has never accomplished much with his talent.

Jerry Seinfeld gets a little more leeway with the crowd when he cracks a bad joke compared to, say, Pauly Shore or ReedTodd. That's just the nature of the beast.

Still, plenty of people, including Packer fans, called Favre out for his poor play and bad throws last year so I'm not sure with I even agree with your premise.

  9. i can't see how this signing hurts...so it's a positive thing. not sure why there's a raging debate going over this signing. it's nothing spectacular or sexy...but it doesn't hurt to sign the guy and put him out there.

    Who stole Sampdog's handle?? :ninja:

    Uncool

  10. I couldn't decide between the Colts and the Packers. The Colts fans truely think their team is a championship team. Packer fans still think Favre is a great QB.

It's like arguing about which Denny's waitress is the cutest  :D

    Zing!!!!!!!!

  11. I hope he plays for 3 more years. 48 games of pure anguish and mediocrity might get him to shut up.

I know, as a Vikes fan, I'll enjoy watching his team suck every week in the fall.

In all reality, it's too bad they won't go spend some money on FA's this year. They have some money, and have no interest in trying to make a run at it one more time for him.

All I can tell you is the pack is gonna suck for another 10 years. They'll be lucky to ever get a QB that comes close to a Brett Favre (as would any team).

    You're all tough now.

I dare you to say any of that to my face when I come up to Minneapolis this weekend

Meet me outside of Gluecks at noon on Sat.

I'll be the guy wearing Packers Zubaz and a Big Johnson t-shirt all set to unleash some pain

    Packers rule :first:

  12. thats fine but maybe two years from now the pack will be back to contending and they will have some scrub kicker they can't rely on. I guess its all about this coming year, and you must not think they are going to be any good this year, not really sure why with the division we play in. B)

By then we'll have drafted an awesome kicker in the third round

  13. Bears- without George Halas the NFL would be nothing like it is today....if it even existed.

Vikes- Fran Tarkington is probably my all time favorite non Packer player. Oh, the fits this guy caused the 60's Packers. The most exciting player of that era.

Lions- Alex Karras is my favorite all time Lion even though he single handedly destroyed my Pack in the 1962 Thanksgiving day game, handing, the arguably greatest Packer team ever, its only loss that year. Was a hilarious announcer and his book "Paper Lion" is a football classic.

    You are old, Nelson.
