After some research on hip flexor strains and briefly consulting an expert, I suspect Rice could be out a month and as much as 2 months. This is speculation, but not without basis. Also, as a Rice owner, and someone who before tonight's game dealt Pierce for Bryce Brown and Cecil Shorts (in a league where I own McCoy), I am bracing myself for the worst. So, I am certainly hoping my gut is wrong. What we know: 1. Baltimore has told us nothing definitive other than he is suffering from a hip flexor strain. 2. Baltimore has not reported the results of any diagnostic tests, MRI or otherwise. These two alone are cause for concern. What my research tells me: 3. Hip flexor strains can range from minor (Grade 1) to complete ruptures (Grade 3). MOST hip flexor strains are Grade 2. 4. Minor strains (small tear) can take 1 to 3 weeks to heal. Larger tears can take 4 to 8 weeks. Complete ruptures can take much longer. 5. "In minor strains, pain may be minimal allowing continued activity. In more severe cases, patients may experience severe pain, muscle spasm, weakness and an inability to continue the activity. Patients with a severe hip flexor strain may also be unable to walk without limping." (http://www.physioadvisor.com.au/10428650/hip-flexor-strain-hip-flexor-injury-iliopsoas-.htm) From the looks of the replay of the play and Rice walking off the field, he seemed to show "an inability to continue the activity" and was "unable to walk without limping." So, though it seems like Baltimore is hoping it is of the 1 to 3 week variety, as do I, I fear it could be of the 4 to 8 week variety. I am hoping it is no worse than somewhere between a grade 1 and 2 and he's out a max of a few weeks, and at best I'm way off and he'll be back very soon, but I'm not counting on it.
