Dan Sez 0 Posted January 22, 2005 Another thought to add. Keep track of the Passes Defended score this season. I originally threw that stat into consideration but not many people liked the idea. If we gave Passed defended a half point or a third point, would that be introducing an imbalance or stressing more the idea of out defensive stat - rewarding team defenses that Stop the opponent. Tackles are a really bad stat, if you have a pizzpoor offense and your D is left on the field for 40 minutes a game, is that REALLY a defense you would want??? But Passes Defended are a mark of an active and athletic secondary. People making plays. Comments?
Pale Rider 0 Posted January 24, 2005 I still think you should get 2 points for a shutout. If you stone a team for the whole game, that is usually because you had a really dominate D effort or you happend to be playing against a very sorry offense. Even with that, shutouts are so rare that I think compensation should be rewarded. As far as pass defended, that falls more into IDP type league settings which I really don't care much for. I could have a tall DE on a team that is giving up big pass plays because they couldn't defend the field, and by chance I happen to get the DE to tip one, is that something that should be rewarded as a team. I would hate to lose a game overall by a tenth point because my opponent had tall defenders which goes back to sounding more like a IDP thing.
Know Doubt 0 Posted January 26, 2005 I wouldn't mind getting 3pts for a shutout. It should be worth at least that especially when your opponent's D is giving up 14-28pts more that week. As for passes defended, it would kill me to see my defense winning 31-7 and giving up two cheap TDs in garbage time.
Blitzen 0 Posted February 12, 2005 No idea on this one...what would the likely impact be on average game scores?

But I have no idea what the count of passes defensed or tackles for loss would be per game for an above average defense. Does anyone know? The rewards for each should be weighted so that neither is biased to out- or under-perform the kind of credit a good defense gets for sacks per game, IMO. whoisjgalt 0 Posted February 12, 2005 Rewarding shutouts is no problem. They are pretty rare in today's NFL. But they ought to earn you something. Perhaps even a tad bit more than the suggestions above. It only happened four times during the 2004 NFL season - twice during the Dungeon regular season (wk3 to SF and wk13 to ATL) and twice during our playoffs (wk15 to CLE and wk16 to JAX). hellothere 1 Posted February 12, 2005 i personally do not want to add passes def. or tack. for loss, however, im fine with a bonus for shutouts
Know Doubt 0 Posted February 15, 2005 Thought it over some more and I'm still FOR Shut-out pts and against passes defended.
Dan Sez 0 Posted February 15, 2005 Lets add 3 pts for a shutout for the 2005 season. No other changes approved. Thanks for the input.
