Zap 0 Posted March 9, 2005 I've already committed to too many, but once my bracket is complete, I'll gladly share the winning entry with you. I'm in one for $100, one for $25, one for $10, one for $5, and there will be two different office pools starting on Monday. So, thanks but I have to pass. Beware the western invasion this year.
Diesel07 0 Posted March 10, 2005 Yah, i dont really keep up much on college hoops, except for FSU and the ACC. I hope your a master at bracketology, because its seems you have alot of $ invested good luck
Diesel07 0 Posted March 11, 2005 yah, so you still willing to share your bracket with me so i can 'compare it to mine'
Zap 0 Posted March 11, 2005 I was very lucky last year. I submitted the same entry in several pools and it won three for a net of $550. UCONN was a lock, imo though. I don't see such a team right now. So, this may be a bad year to follow my advice. It would be odd to be so lucky again, but I think I have a decent handle on college hoops. Hell, I'm addicted and taking off three weeks just so I can watch games night and day.
Diesel07 0 Posted March 12, 2005 I havent been keeping up this year as much as i was lat year, mainly due to the Semninoles sucking hardcore. I agree, i dont see a team that stands out like UCONN did last year. I really like UNC though!
Zap 0 Posted March 12, 2005 I'm very tempted to pencil in UNC as the champ, but their perimeter defense is going to kill them against a team that gets hot from the trey. I dunno. Them and Illinois appear to be the class of college hoops, but I keep seeing teams I think can take them. Kansas and Kentucky play great hoops from time to time. Duke and AZ can beat anybody when they get it going. I've got today and tomorrow to make up my mind. I think Gonzaga is going to be a very tough out this year, and last year I expected them to go down early. Here's what I think is the secret to winning these pools. First you have to pick the overall champ, or you lose. Period. At ESPN last year only 20% of the brackets picked UCONN, and I really was confident that Gordon and Okefur were superior to the rest. Which is something I look for. What team has the most NBA talent? I think it's UNC and AZ actually. Second, you have to nail at least two unexpected teams to make it to the Elite 8. If you don't think any unexpected teams are going that far you have to nail 6 of the 8. You can only overcome not doing that by getting the three of the final four. It's all madness, of course, but it's so much fun. I cannot wait to see the brakcets. I've been saying all year that I didn't think ILL could make it all the way. I'm watching them right now, and I still feel that way.
Diesel07 0 Posted March 12, 2005 I like UNC for a couple reason. One, they play in a TOUGH TOUGH division. Two, May is a MONSTER on the boards. Three, their level of intensity, especially Rashad McCants. That boy is like lightning! The way they run fast breaks reminds me of the Detroit Pistons last year. I don't know much about their perimiter defense, but if they can play with that level of energy and keep attacking, i think they have the (one of) best chances of winning it all. Im not to sold on Ky or Kan. Both are good teams, but i dont know if they have enough gas to go all the way! I really like Duke and AZ as well this year. One team that has been playing EXTREMELY well and was suppose to have a GREAT year is NC St. Im not sure if they have won a bid to the tournament, but im really liking them. There playing great ball aginst Duke right now. What two teams would you consider "unexpected?"
Zap 0 Posted March 13, 2005 Did you see the games today? I'm going to put all the names in a hat and have a drawing to fill in my bracket. I'm clueless.
Diesel07 0 Posted March 13, 2005 Ya, i saw they lost, but didnt get a chance to see the game. Look at Wake Forest though. There good and they lost to. Georgia Tech is looking nice. I saw somethin on ESPN that said everytime they upset a #1 seed in the acc tourny they went to the elite 8 i believe. I might pencil them in as a sleeper! Diesel07 0 Posted March 13, 2005 the No. 1 ranked team heading into March Madness has won just 3 of the last 20 NCAA Tournaments and only one time since 1966 have the top 3 ranked teams all made the Final Four. 1. 13 of the last 15 Champions have been either a 1- or 2-seed. 2. At least one 1-seed has made it to the Final Four each of the last 23 years. 3. Not since 1979 have two teams met in the Title Game having never been there before. Find your Final Four Sleeper. Now that we've established the conservative reality of the Final Four, it's time to pick the one lesser-rated team that will make the Final Four. We're not talking about double-digit seeds here -- the lowest seed to ever make the Final Four was a No. 11 and after that a few No. 8's -- we're talking about a No. 3 or above seed who will break through to the Final weekend. Consider: 1. At least one 3 or higher-seed has made it to the Final Four in every year but one since 1979. Ok, the Duke-Ga Tech game is on. Zap 0 Posted March 19, 2005 Well, I did you a favor by not helping. My brackets are rooooned!
Diesel07 0 Posted March 21, 2005 I did pretty bad too, but im not out of the race just yet. For me to win it, all i need is Kentucky to lose their next game aginst Utah, OSU to beat Arizona, Louiville to beat Washington. Than i need OSU to meet UNCin the Championship game and have UNC win! I have a small glimmer of hope left. maybe your luck in March Madness will reveal how you'll do come football season
