Salary cap data

Recommended Posts

My league has set dollar values for every player going into the draft. How can I use that data in the compiler?

Do you just pick a team that has to stay under a set salary cap? Can each person in the league pick the same players, or is there only 1 player available per team?

Thanks for getting back to me Mike. My league is a 12 team keep all system that caps each team to a 1,000 to spend on draft day. A player can only be drafted by one team not multiple teams, I think that is what you meant by the second question? This obviously is the first year since we are having a full 18 round draft with a 5 round rookie draft each subsequent year. Our commissioner has used a program that calculated each players dollar value for this season and has given us those numbers in excel to use on draft day (8-2-03). Can I substitute his numbers in the compiler?

Somehow we need to figure out the players you are getting the best value from based on their contract price. Difficult to think about at this time of night. My eyes really look like this

I'll try to give this some more thought. Bump this up tomorrow and we'll see if I can come up with anything.

Mike as you requested here is the bump. Would be of benefit to you to know the values I have for each player in terms of the salary cap?

Mike, here is the bump to the bump. As a side note to my main question, I hold the 10th pick overall in a 18 round serpentine draft in a league that will be a keep all after this year, the number pick wants to trade his 1 and 25th overall for my 10th and 15th overall, good or not? Thanks for all your much appreciated help!! Chuck

Yes, I did ask for it. Let me clear up some of these other posts now I've finally had time to get to the board and then I'll get back to this.

Mike and I discussed this chuckoman, and we're at a bit of a loss on what to suggest. The biggest issue is deciding how much emphasis to put on going for the top rated player, versus passing on a higher point producer for better cost/benefit (because of lower salary). With a keeper league you'll want some consideration for youth too.

How restrictive do the salaries seem? Is it going to be difficult to stay under the salary cap? Part of me wants to say throw caution to the wind, take the best players available, and figure you can always find lower priced guys to fill in the backup positions - rookies and free agents who come out of no where.

But, maybe that isn't the best philosophy if it is going to mess you up on the cap carrying a couple heavy contracts if guys aren't performing.

Basically, what you want are the players who are going to exceed their fixed salary. Fill up with these as best you can, and as you do this and have extra salary to play with, spend it on better players. It is going to be a game of trade offs back and forth all the time.

I'm not sure how you can incorporate this into the Compiler quite frankly. I think it will be fairly obvious where the values are, because they will be ranked high but have relatively low salary.

I'm not sure how helpful I'm being here, but you've really thrown us a knuckleball with this one.

Mike,

Is there a way for me to create a new column in the draft buddy under the "by position" sheet, call it "CAP$" then manually assign the salary dollar values to each player and have that column link to the "overall" sheet so I can see their cap values in both views during the draft? I can live without having the data compiled with cap figures considered as long as I can see the ranking sheets in the draft buddy with all the existing data from the compiler and my cap figures as well. Suggestions? Once again, you guys have been great and appreciate the fact that you are working your asses off for us right now! Oh by the way, no pressure, my draft is Saturday!!

Ah! Saturday!

It gets tricky adding columns and such, so I don't really recommend that. My suggestion - add the fixed salary cap data to the Team column. Just overwrite the team abbreviations on the right chart in the offense tab of Buddy. I think that will do it, and carry through. You know all the teams the players are on anyway, right?

Or, you could go right back to the Compiler, and edit the player names to include their fixed salary right there. Then that will carry all the way through the Compiler and Buddy.

A couple thoughts. Let me know how it goes in case I've forgotten something that gets messed up when you do this.
