Trade Vetoed

Recommended Posts

I had a lopsided trade vetoed and I'm pretty pissed about it. Of course, I was the beneficiary.

Here's the deal. Early in the week an owner sent me a trade, Stallworth for Antoine Smith. I countered with Stallworth for K. Jones on Thursday. Sunday rolls around and there's no action. I notice that he has no one to start in his third WR slot as Horn, Johnson, Engram and Bruce were out so I sent him an e-mail. My e-mail brings the fact that all 4 are out and I ask him what he wants to do about the trade. Minutes later he accepts.

I then post a message to the leage stating that the trade went down and for it to be reflected in the lineups for the week. Usually there is a grace period but only for commissioner review and barring collusion no trade should be vetoed. Five minutes later he posts a message saying he wants the trade vetoed because it was supposed to be represented in that week's line up and because of the grace period he no longer wants to do it. Commissioner sides with him and vetoes the deal.

I say its a case of buyer's remorse and the trade should go through regardless. Am I wrong here?

That's between you and the league. The guy sounds like a p uss as does the commish.

You need to be more specific about your league's rules if you want helpful replies about this trade. What does a "grace period" mean? Does that mean people can back out of a trade, or there's some time period before the players can be activated, or does it mean others have a certain amount of time to object to it, (or something else)? Personally, I think either a trade is final or it isn't, unless your league's rules specifically allow someone to reconsider a deal and declare it a nullity.

The trade rules aren't all that stringent or clearly spelled out. The grace period basically gives the commissioner a period of time to review it instead of it goign through immediately, in the event of something stupid happening like someone accidently hitting accept. The two day period is the yahoo standard but in the past trades have been pushed through virtually immediately for lineup deadline purposes.

If the guy said he accidently accepted or something like that I would understand. He didn't. He just made a bad deal and had buyer's remorse.

The way I see it, the guy accepted because he was in a tight spot and then reconsidered fifteen minutes later. No reason to veto the trade in my mind. I took advantage of his situation. Those are the breaks.

If the only reason for the "grace period" is to give the Commissioner a chance to cancel the trade due to a mistake, then I see no reason why the trade shouldn't be honored. Also, if there's supposed to be a 2 day waiting period before a trade becomes final, but that rule has been ignored in the past, the Commissioner shouldn't rely upon that rule--it's either a rule, or it's not, and if the Commissioner has allowed trades in the past without waiting for 2 days, then it's not a rule that should be enforced. Additionally, you can point out that you relied upon past transactions when you made your deal--you expected, based upon the history of the league, that you could trade player A for player B and that you could use the player you obtained immediately, notwithstanding any "2 day" guideline. Tell the other owner he should live up to the agreement he made and tell your Commish to approve this deal.

Same thing happended to me earlier in the year. The guy said he hit the 'accept ' button by mistake. He calls the commish within 15 minutes after accepting and the commish vetoed the trade. Whether it was a mistake - or buyers remorse - (more likely), there is not much you can do about it, so do what I did and let it go. If he hadn't gone to the commish within just a few minutes, then you would have a right to be very pissed.

BTW, My trade was not nearly as one-sided as yours.

Screw that, the trade went through and shouldnt be vetoed, but because of the grace period you posted that is usually used the trade shouldnt go through until after that grace period.
