Detroit's Bly out for about a month

Guest Moose Knuckle Ball Four

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - Detroit Lions cornerback Dre' Bly is expected to be out three to four weeks after having surgery Wednesday on his right wrist.

Bly has four interceptions this season, trailing only Indianapolis' Cato June in the NFL, and 28 in his seven-year career. Bly dislocated his wrist in last week's 13-10 win over Cleveland.

R.W. McQuarters, who spent the previous five seasons in Chicago, will likely start in Bly's place when Detroit (3-3) plays the Bears (3-3) Sunday at home for first place in the NFC North.

The Lions are hoping defensive tackle Shaun Rogers will face Chicago after he sprained his right knee against the Browns, though he did not practice Wednesday. Rogers is listed as questionable.

``He's living in that treatment room trying to get better,'' Mariucci said. ``He still a little tight, a little sore and a little swollen.''

Return specialist and backup receiver Eddie Drummond is listed as questionable after missing almost three full games with an injured left knee.

``He looks like he is running a little better,'' Mariucci said.

Bly, Rogers and Drummond were Pro Bowlers last season.

Detroit desperately needs receiver Roy Williams to play this week with Charles Rogers suspended for one more game and Kevin Johnson out for the season with an Achilles tendon injury. Williams practiced in pads for the first time Wednesday since injuring his left quadriceps Oct. 16 against Baltimore, forcing him to miss the next two-plus games.

The Lions signed two receivers - Scottie Vines and Glenn Martinez - off the practice squad earlier this season and added receiver Troy Edwards on Monday.

How much do you think this will impact the Detroit D over the next few weeks?  They looked like a good option against Chi, Min & Ari.

the lions are still a good play.

no excuses. no whining. injuries are part of the game and if you're a good team you win anyway.

leave the whining about injuries to bear (last year) and packer (this year) fans.

great news about shaun. the man is a gamer. if there's any way for him to be on the field he will.

This does negatively affect the Detroit D. Bly not only gets tons of INT's, but he also forces and recovers fumbles. The guy is a playmaker, and I think he's the one guy the Detroit D could not afford to lose.

this week it's more important to stop the run; therefore, shaun rogers is more important than bly (if you had to pick either/or). but of course i'd love to have bly in there, no question.

orton's passing game scares no one.

how appropriate mr. orton's first visit to ford field will be on devil's night
