Enoch 1 Posted May 3, 2006 1) Simms is not the best QB in the league 2) Rattay has now been in TB litttle under a year(should know the playbook well before 2006 starts) 3) Rattay look Ok in the past with less of a team What kind of odds do you give him taking the QB job from Simms at some point. I see about 30% Just like to know what other think about the QBs as a whole in TB Thanks for any info
RicemanX 20 Posted May 3, 2006 I still dont understand why the Niners traded Rattay away to give Alex Smith some playing time. He was getting wins, or coming close to them Rattay is an above-average QB who should be able to compete for the job if its only against Simms
ronnydobbs 0 Posted May 3, 2006 Rattay was just an insurance policy last year (7th Rounder for him) when Griese went down. Simms is the starter unless something major happens and the Bucs say they like Luke McCown as the backup. They like McCown's speed and ability to run and how he has picked up the system. Ratay could quite possibly get traded or cut due to the drafting of Gradkowski. This should be an interesting Bucs camp this year.
GeminiV 0 Posted May 3, 2006 I still dont understand why the Niners traded Rattay away to give Alex Smith some playing time. I wasn't happy about it, either, but I guess they decided that Smith needed some experience as a rookie ( which I didn't agree) and it was gonna be bad to have the locker room split between the two quarterbacks (this I do agree with). bigums 0 Posted May 3, 2006 Local word is (as mentioned above) that McCown has secured the #2 job and Rattay was on the trading block. Gruden seems to see a little Gannon in Gradkowski and if he's even decent, Rattay is gone one way or the other.
Montana_god 0 Posted May 3, 2006 Really a shame - Rattay is a good QB with a nice touch on the long ball - hopefully he will get another chance - As a niner fan I think they got rid of him becuase they didn't want ASmith looking over his shoulder - It's a lot easier to keep Smith in the game when your alternative is Pickett ( though Pickett is a stud! )

I think Rattay can be an above average NFL starter, he just got stuck playing with an atrocious offense and even worse offensive line (every time he took a snap he had 2 D lineman in his face immediately). He is accurate and has nice touch on the short and intermediate passes. He has average arm strength, but that is one of the most overrated gauges of a quarterbacks worth.
