And I'm nice and pleaseant, and she is to, and we are talking about plans for what I will be teaching next quarter. Anyway, I thought she had some idea about my progression as a multimedia artist ... I still have Bushcartoon.com in my pocket, apparently. She doesn't realize I was almost famous, 6 years ago for my "Dicks of Hazzard: Bush The First 100 Days" cartoon. So she starts to ask me about grad school, because I told her the facilities, and the instruction was equivalent to my grad school ...

 

So she say's, "What's your Master's in exactly ..." it's an MS, not an MFA ... and I said, "Well, it's ... they call it a degree in 'Digital Imaging and Design' but ..." and she said, "That could mean a lot of things." and I said, "Yeah well it was a lot of Maya ..." and she interupted, "Could you teach Maya?!" and I just kinda shook my head and said, "I could teach After Effects, Combustion ... I'm not a 3D guy." and she said, "So what exactly did you study in grad school." and to make a long story short I was like, "Post production for film and video. After Effects, Combustion, Final Cut, Pro Tools ... stuff like that." and she was kinda floored. Happy ... but apparently, had no friggin clue that I was anything more than a print designer. Walk softly ... and carry a big stick. Getting introduced to the head special effects guy, that has Emmy's, next week.

 

I recently read the memoirs of my greta-greta grandfather ... and perhaps my favorite line is (paraphrase), "I don't remember ever being late for an appointment in my life, and I never found much use for people that were not able to be on time."

so i think i want to teach. this research stuff is not for me. too much disappointment and tedium for the all too rare moments of genuine insight and discovery. i know i really liked TAing, especially the one genetics lab with all the cuties in it. i could see myself teaching at a 2 year school, or a 4 year school, but without any research responsibilities. it would also be nice to have summers off. dunno for sure though. gotta get this damn phd first.
