TAS 2 Posted May 15, 2006 What is the appropriate amount to drop in the envelope? Realizing of course that there are diff. amounts based on how well you know someone. What is a good rule of thumb? TIA
The Motorcycle Boy 0 Posted May 15, 2006 Depends on the charity or foundation and how you feel about it. Giving something is better than giving nothing if you feel it is a worthwhile charity.

davebg 0 Posted May 15, 2006 ' date='May 15 2006, 04:52 PM' post='2424806']i've never been to a funeral as an adult...people give money? I have been to a funeral as an adult. I've seen where the family has requested that people dontate to a charity or foundation instead of sending flowers (especially if the person died of a particular disease or something.) I've also seen as Catholic funuerals/wakes where people put these card-things in like a card tree of some sort. But I have NEVAH seen people giving cash gifts at a funeral. Perhaps it is more of a cultural thing. My FIL passed and there were thousands of dollars received. I think it is more of a "help w/ the expenses" type of thing. Dunno???? Dunno???? Are you by chance Mexican-American?! In my experience, cash isn't presented to the family; it's usually either for flowers or for the charity the family requested. American-yes Mexican-no Often times in Hawaii, the obituary will say no money, but a donation to a specific charity would be preferred. Could just be here though.
