the "Jerry Porter was a DUMB Pick" League

Recommended Posts

Alright, for any of you guys following Sweetness34's excellent draft thread, have followed roll call, and come this far, this is just a preliminary registration for a free league that will be all about board bragging priveleges. Ive dropped a suggested list of prospective owners in Sweet's draft thread, but all may not be interested. Those names were listed because they were the most active in 34's draft, and Im sure he appreciates that, but if Sweet or FS or any of the others here first to sign in would like to bring in a favorite regular who you know'll add alot to this league, by all means bring on those losers....uh, I mean..uh, the uh the other members and we'll try and get this thing together. So, this is just a starting point, and I wish to make this thing as simple as possible, but together we can all put our heads toghether and set our league and draft up for minimal trouble and maximum coverage on the board. So sign in as you will.

SoloMatisse .........is in the friggin' house.

By the way, Jerry Porter really was a dumb pick.....it makes for a great league name. Somehow, the "I really wasnt in full support of the Jerry Porter pick" league doesnt have such a ring to it........

We could call it the "Curtis Martin is on his last legs " league and meet somewhere in the middle...nothing like a happy medium. Oh, the badgering....

Or the "Chesta Taylor is Baby Jesus League" or the "Chesta Taylor is so freaking good he could not even beat out a crappy Jamal Lewis Last Year League" or the "Chesta Taylor is so freaking good the Ravens decided to instead re-sign Jamal and sign Mike Anderson than re-sign Baby Jesus"

How about the "Official Sweetness_34 can't draft worth a shite league"?

:ninja:

And yes, if it's 12 teams, I am in, b!tches. I expect PPR, with starting rosters of

1 QB

2 RB

3 WR

1 TE

1 K

1 D/ST

bench = whatever...maybe 18 rounds?

No trades of draft picks - keep it simple and keep the flow going.

Id vote instead of the 3rd WR, we roll with the 'flex' spot. This'll prevent guys like Darrell Jackson from being drafted so early. jk, Sweet. Ive never been in a PPR, so thatll be different for me if it flies. What do you think, Scooter? You like the 'flex' spot? It could be a WR, TE or RB....owner's choice.

Sorry I didn't read that whole thread, but I'll throw my name in the hat at teh last team.

GP, we're gonna try and fill this thing up with a list of members that I had in mind, but we'll put you on the top of the list if there are openings. Ill keep updating the list of owners who are in so that you can follow. Thanks for interest, and like I said, just check back.

let's use the flex position. let's also use individual return yards on punts and kickoffs. that way your choices don't suck so bad when you're scraping the bottom of the bucket for a flex.

Thats a new one on me, Sooner....the individual return yards. So, someone like Daunte hall for example would have some serious return value?? Im sure Id like that, but elaborate if you will.

I figured that, that's why I put my name in at the last spot, figuring someone might back out. It's all cool.

You should add sig bets to the bragging rights. Except around here, they seem to cause trouble.

I hate flex.

Please no flex. Just do 3 WRs and manditory TE. That seems to be the most common lineup these days.

1 QB

2 RB

3 WR

1 TE

1 D/ST

this is good for me. Solo Matisse, send me the info whenever you have it.

it's exactly like receiving yards for wr's or rushing/receiving yards for rb's, but it's punt/kickoff return yards instead. 25 yards (or 20 or whatever) ='s 1 point type of thing.

some people use individual yards, some use the defense/special teams for return yards. some use both. personally, when you get to the flex position, it's just soooo much easier for someone to find a players off the ww to use when everyone is getting hurt or it's the "bye week from hell" and there's just noone out there to choose. alot of wr's that are #3's on their team (read: no receptions/yards/td's) are many times the punt/kr on their team (i.e. dante hall). that makes them viable choices for the flex position. makes the pickings on the ww go from total crap to semi-total crap. it helps.

i dont know if i like the idea for individual return yards. i think we should just stick with the standard positions, but who knows it could be fun.

Thats all I needed to hear. were gonna have to leave that idea out. I dont want to devalue a current FF scoring system. Dont worry, youll be able to find plenty of guys off of waivers. everyone on this board can help.

You hated 10 teams. Were going 12. Now you hate flex? Cmon....Ive never played PPR, and Im giving that a go. Dont sweat it...Im always in favor of flexibilty, and leaving owners choose how they like to load up. If you think it puts you at a disadvantage though, I would want to........................FLEX IT IS!!! We'll vote on it...only fair thing to do.

Lets be very clear that if we use the flex position, then the way the draft unfolds WILL be different than mine because we have a 2 RB, 3 WR requirement

it wont be too much different, except the possibility of drafting a RB in the 3rd or 4th, just depends on who is lying around.

That will absolutely.....it will change everything.....including the name of the league from either the "Jerry Porter was a bad pick" league or the "somebody hit me over the head with a rolling pin right before the Darrell Jackson pick" league to the "Let me make things Perfectly Clear" league......... Seriously, it will broaden the array of quality available picks, rather than limit them.....and that would be good.

Well it hasn't been voted in yet. Not being a schmuck is key to putting something like this together and last I checked you weren't god.

The suggestion was initially made so that those in that draft topic could put our bragging rights where out mouths were and put together a better team than 34.

That means using the same scoring system so that our drafts can be compared. if we don't use PPR, or do use Flex, then the comparison is bunk. Flex changes everything.

You're the one trying to change everything, so maybe it's you who should bow out. :o

FS-

Im not the one who uttered the words, "Im out", but having said that I understand your point. I believe this thing was my idea, but Im not here to butter my own bread. If it means keeping you in this league, which imo would make it a better one, than by all means Ill vote 'flex' out, and well stick with 34's scoring system.....primarily because it'll get you in this league, and give me a chance to drop the hammer on you! :o

You wanted to see if we'd draft better teams than 34 in that system. Change the system and it becomes something else.

Just trying to keep it on focus.

I also have a personal dislike for flex rosters. I'll be in one such league this year (WCOFF) and that's more than enough.

And for the record, I said "If it's flex, I'm out." That's called an "if/then" statement.

i really don't know you well, but right now, you calling solo a schmuck is pot calling kettle. personally, i vote for flex. and if you haven't noticed, no one died and annointed you God either.

you might actually consider not being so self-centered and be more of a team player. solo's being quite diplomatic about this. please try doing the same.

eat me.

Actually I'm just messing around.

But the idea was to try drafting a team in the same format as 34's league and that's what I agreed to.

So while true that I am not god (a minor FFB diety, perhaps) it seems screwy to ask everyone if they want to be in a specific thing, then attempt to change that thing.

[diplomacy]

Since there are so many of us, and we all have ideas of what makes a good roster/scoring system, perhaps it is best to keep to the original idea and use a somewhat vanilla set of standards for this, as initially discussed at inception. That would be the simplest way to go about it - just say, "we'll do it as originally proposed to keep things simple".

[/dimplomacy]

now eat me again.

Heres a thought, for all you guys who've followed Sweetness' draft the closest, including you 34, would you characters be interested in a free league for bragging rights? I dont play free leagues myself, but in order to simplify the process, I think itd be in good fun to pit our knowledge against one another. Give it some thought.

Dont watch your back......watch your JUGULAR!

Scooter-

Im just gonna tighten you up real quick because when I suggested we form this league, I never said anything about the format being the same as Sweetness' league. Not a word of that was mentioned, by me you or anyone. Above is the original post, verbatum, when I suggested this, and nothing at all has been changed. In the many posts following, no mention on the format or point system. it was simply, lets just do this and have fun with it. Im not trying to prove that I can draft a better team than Sweet did.....thats a no brainer. Im just trying to prove I can drop the hammer on some people when Im called upon. Anyway, Im not trying to get you sweatin', just wanted you to be aware that were not cornering ourselves into any specific format, and that you were slightly off base in my intentions. But its all good.....in my eyes, you still have red hair, and youre still a low down, good for nothin' scrub of a step brother that's got to be beaten' down a bit. Uh....................

ok, fair enough. My misunderstanding. I thought the intent was to emulate that scoring system. Dunno how I got that impression.

Whatever - I don't really care. Go ahead and have flex. I'd just not be interested.

As someone who has read every word of both posts, I thought that it was implied that the new league would mimic Sweets' league. Scooter is set up to be the guy who'd take his ball and go home. Words do not need to be put into quotes to be implied when posts are taken into context. I usually am arguing against the minor lil' diety, but he is right on this. Keep it the same.

I'll prop myself to be in the league. I contributed to Sweet's thread, giving good reasons after he took Palmer to take Kurt Warner later, which he did. Sweet I still think that you need to lock up that rook QB for AZ. Rooks deserve to be named with vets after they do something IMO. Oh, and I'd relish the opportunity to burst Scooter's ego bubble. AND I have my own bubble that actually thinks that I am better than ALL of you at ff!!!

Dude, you have no idea what you are talking about. I simply suggested we start a league. There was absolutely no suggestion or hint at what type of league it would be other than I wanted it to involve primarlily the guys who dropped alot of insight during Sweetness' draft. Thanks for the dis, but its not needed right now, Skip.

In a PPR league the flex position is even. Wr's become gold. Unless you get 3 top 15 rb's the flex should be a WR.

Obviously YOU have no clue what I'm talking about. You simply suggested "we" start a league FROM Sweets thread. You wanna do a spin-off FROM Sweets thread and make it totally different, then fine call it that. YOU left it vague with the logical assumption to be made. Clarify what you have to say instead of harping on what you've already said.

Scooter, you often have great points but your delivery makes you sound like a freakin' baby. (if i was playing i would support this league being a spin-off, 3wr no flex)

watch scooter win...
