Keeper/Draft issue with Portis, Benson, etc

Recommended Posts

I'm in a keeper league where we keep any three keepers, which will cost us the draft pick two rounds earlier from their last draft. Two of my keepers are Ronnie Brown (for a 4th round pick) and Palmer (for a 9th round pick). I have several choices for my last keeper--Tatum Bell for an 11th round pick, Benson for a 8th round pick, or Portis for my 1st round pick. I draft #3 overall in a 10-12 team league (we're at ten, trying to expand to 12), so I don't exactly want to keep Portis for the overall #3 when I can keep another RB and draft another top RB.

This brings up two issues--who to keep between Benson and Bell? I'm leaning towards Benson due to future potential and being a Bears fan, however I believe Bell will do more this year, however the Shanny games with RBBC frustrate me. I'm also not as sold on Bell.

The other is what to do with Portis and who do I draft. Other owners in our league will probably be keeping Tiki, LJ, SJax, and possibly Jordan (as usual first round RBs). I'm fairly certain the two owners in front of me will be drafting LT2 and SA. Since we have new expansions this year, we let them draft from our leftovers, which means that one of them could grab Portis, who I think will be a stud. So, my three choices are:

1) Do nothing and hope no one grabs him in expansion draft, then draft him at #3. If someone drafts him, I get nothing for him and I'll have to draft Edge or Rudi.

2) Keep Portis for my #1 pick, however won't be able to keep a lower drafted RB as a third RB.

3) Trade Portis to another team for draft picks (and looking at moving up in the second round.) I'll have to draft Edge or Rudi and would have a nicer 2nd round pick.

Any ideas?

Trade Portis, move up in the draft and draft Edge....Rudi....sounds much better to me. Option #1 is out of the question!

keep Portis as you pair him with Brown and you have a pairing that can go toe to toe with the LJ, Alex or LT owner....

Draft Benson later or Bell in round #2 if you really want him....Ignore anyone who says to get Edge over Portis....
