How much do you account for divisions players play in?

Recommended Posts

If I think a division is defensively stacked.. I am a leary of a player... conversely I like teams in weak divisions. It doesn't have a huge effect, but I definitely do factor it in. At the very least it is definitely a tie breaker between two close players. You just can't ignore that 6 games vs the NFC East is much tougher than 6 games vs the NFC North. Even location (and corresponding weather... especially down the stretch) plays into this IMO. Anyhow, I want to see if people have the same thought process, and see how they feel about each division...

My rankings (from best to worst from a fantasy perspective):

NFC West - No defenses on this division scare anyone, and the division overall is very weak. There are some D's with some motors, but they always seem susceptible to power football. SEA is well rounded, but not dominant, ARI coudl surprise, and homer says the Rams is the best in the league :( SF... it is what it is.

AFC South - Jax has been a solid D for a while, but seems to get exploited at times. Indy is good, but it more of a speed/finesse D. TEN, atrocious last year and wasn't addressed all that much. It's going to take more than Mario to resurrect the HOU D, but they are headed in the right direction.

NFC North - Sucks to play against Chi twice, and Minnesota played very solid in the 2nd half. GB even looks like it may be on the up and up, and Detroit shows flashes at times. What hurts is all of these teams don't have very good offenses.

AFC West - Denver, SD, and even KC to a surprising certain extent have stout run D's, but all can be exploited through the air. OAK, along with SF proves there is no D in Bay Area. I don't know why I don't have them ranked worse... because aside from Denver, they don't really look good on paper; maybe it's because they each have more proficient offenses and just play better football overall.

AFC East - Interesting, because a year ago I would have said this was the best defensive division over all.. but both BUF and NYJ completely tanked last year on D. Even NE got ran all over. Still, I like MIA on the up and up, and I like all the teams to rebound a bit after terrible seasons.

NFC South - Probably has the most speed on the defensive side of the ball. Aside from the 'Aints, I like all these D's... with a little exception to Atlanta who seems shaky at times. They aren't powerful, but they seem to make plays. Had #1 and #3 D's last year (yards).

NFC East - This division is definitely on the up and up on the D side of the ball IMO. Dallas has a lot of young playmakers, PHI seems revamped, and WASH attacks.. only the NYG are a bit questionable IMO

AFC North - Power football + bad weather. I would not like to be on offense in this division. Even the Ravens finished #5 last year with an absolutely atrocious offense, and I like what Romeo is building with the Browns. Cincy definitely has problems, but you can't discount they led the league in TO's

i don't do any rankings of any kind based on sos.

a complete waste of time. there is no way to project team changes in the nfl from year to year, and as most sos stuff is based strictly on last year's stats, it's a waste of time.

So are you saying that if you had Steven Jackson and Lamont Jordan (Hypotheitcally at least), that you wouldn't take into consideration that Jackson plays in the NFC West at all? Are you saying that if a team faced @WASH, @ CHI, and Pitt in weeks 14-16 it doesn't matter because you can't gauge how much those D's will change? Mine is more of a loose concept than a statitistical based one... and I take into consideration the major personnel changes from year to year. Also, what you are saying can be said about offenses and players, but gauging change is what fantasy is all about.
