Cuse9 131 Posted July 29, 2006 Obviously Jerry Rice is a shoe in for the Hall of Fame. I wonder if there is any chance we will see any of his records get broken? Impressive...very impressive. Here is his records and the second place guy and then the next closest player that is active. His records are so rediculous I don't think anyone can ever touch them. Receptions 1. Jerry Rice........1549 2. Cris Carter......1101...-448 A. Marvin Harrison 927...-622 Yards 1. Jerry Rice.............22,895 2. Tim Brown............14,934....-7961 A. Marvin Harrison....12,331...-10564 Touchdowns/Total 1. Jerry Rice...........207 2. Emmitt Smith......175...-32 A. Marvin Harrison...110...-97 Touchdowns/receiving 1. Jerry Rice............197 2. Cris Carter..........130...-67 A. Marvin Harrison...110...-87 Yards from scrimmage 1. Jerry Rice.............23,540 2. Emmitt Smith........21,579...-1961 A. Curtis Martin.........17,430...-6110
Raider 84 29 Posted July 29, 2006 I never thought Marino's single season TD would get broken. If Shaun keeps scoring 20+tds in a season he might get close to the TD record. Many of these career records will be kept for some time by Rice.

Anyone can catch lightning in a bottle for one year, but to do it for x amount of years is impressive.

Anyone can catch lightning in a bottle for one year, but to do it for x amount of years is impressive. I agree. I also felt Marino's single-season record will last a longer time, but like you said, on any given year. Rice's career records do seem untouchable, though. Maybe a RB reaches his TD total, but I can't see a WR doing it. To reach his records, the following requirements need met: 1. You need an ultra-talented player. 2. The player has to have a beyond-normal drive to be the best. 3. The player has to remain healthy for 15-plus seasons. 4. For a WR to threaten the records, he needs the good fortune of having superior QBs for the majority of his career (Montana, Young and to an extent Gannon during his career-best years, in Rice's case). The obvious choice would be Harrison, but as good as he's been, look how far away he is. I can't see it happening. The GOAT rules.
