Any Dr's in the House?

For us old guys who pull something getting out of bed, how do these early camp hamstring injuries occur? Stretching issues, muscles wound too tight from off-season workouts, etc??? The real question, for geeks, what should we look for to determine how the recovery is going and when to NOT be concerned? Since there are various varieties (thus Randy Moss playing through the injury), what is the best course of speculation? Luckily we haven't had a NE player hit yet, or Coach B. would have them on a permanent Doubtful status. Thanks for the insight.

im no doctor but i can tell you that the best thing all of these guys can do right now is sit the rest of camp

 

Smith unfortunately sounds the worst of them since he was carted off the field, Brown hobbled off which is bad enough but at least he could walk on it

hamstrings tend to be such a nagging injury because of the muscle itself

 

your gluts and hams are big for any walking motion and get used much more than quads in that respect

that tends to be why they linger so long, they can't be easily rested and i dont think i have to tell anyone who has every pulled a muscle that the only way to let it get back to strength is not use it

 

i know for Moss it was an inner ham pull which then effects the groin muscles as well

hams are straight forward and backwards but when something like this happens and the groin gets strained then lateral movement is also hindered and any movement of the leg is then putting strain on the pulled muscles

 

sucks to hear Taylor, Smith, and Brown are already afflicted but worrying should be left until a diagnosis has been reached

if you own them just pray it isn't serious and they sit out in camp.... in that case i wouldn't worry too overly much

 

 

most likely these are just from the offseason and just rust issues

people can be as flexible as they want but once you break that routine everything tightens up and the same range isn't there anymore

 

combination of rust/pushing themselves too hard too soon

i am a bit disgruntled as Brown is my best WR depth in one league and it could have been worse as i wanted Taylor but had to pass because of his bye

 

i know i shouldn't be that concerned but news like this sucks to hear already

I play about 150-200 softball games a year and hamstring injuries are very common. Like esoitl said....all you can do is rest it. It's very easy to make it worse if you come back to soon...it's also really hard to not play!

 

It's not as bad as the worst injury in the history of football......the dreaded turf toe.....that can make a player "game time decision" for an entire season!!
