Why no love for C. Cobbs?

Recommended Posts

He has been putting up these numbers agaist 2nd and 3rd stringers. He is prob 4th on their RB depth chart as well. That being said Ratface will prob start him by week 3.

Also since at least on paper he looks like the best back in Denver - what do all the Homers think???

He looks good so far, but, he also runs against the 2nd/3rd team defense every time. Don't get me wrong, I like him, but even being a Denver Homer I avoid the Denver RB's at all costs due to this reason.. Who knows who will be starting from week to week on this team.. Great for the Broncos, Horrible for Fantasy..

If you look at the other league leaders, for the most part, they're not the normal starters for their respective teams. In the preseason, the players the coaches are more familiar with (and don't want to risk injury) get limited playing time, while those who are trying to make the team and who the coaches are trying to see what they're capable of get more time. That's why players like Cobbs might have better numbers. They just get more action. Granted, he's apparently been impressive, but that doesn't mean that anybody will draft him #1 (or assume he should be the Denver starter) because he's "leading the NFL in yards."

This is just preseason and Shanahan's offensive system is very runningback friendly. He has been running the ball when Cutler has been in at QB so the defence has to play straight up and respect the pass as well.

A lot of preseason football defences just tee up on the run once the backups come in because the QB play drops of big time in compared with the talent of the secondary.
