FFOpie 0 Posted August 30, 2006 I keep noticing in various threads talk about rosters and people drafting "The Reverend" but it's my honest opinion that this guy is ready for the glue factory. Is it just me? STL is going away from 3+ receiever sets and Holt if Healthy plays near every down. Bruce has been battling injuries, has had one good year in the last three and has some talented young players in Curtis and McDonald behind him pressing for time (I actually think Curtis has passed him). As it stands now, the only way I could see adding this guy would be as a waiver wire move to cover a bye week and exploit a matchup if STL has a favorable game coming. So, what's the deal? Where's the flaw in my reasoning here?
My Negro! 3 Posted August 30, 2006 Because Bulgar loves him. When Bruce came bacl last season Curtis went into the crapper.
rebooters 1 Posted August 30, 2006 bruce is a nice backup reciever because he does connect with bulger and holt gets most attention. he does have skills.
RamslovaMartzhata 3 Posted August 30, 2006 Linehan is on record (a while ago... sorry too lazy to find it for you) as saying that he didn't know what to expect from Bruce, but then has been nothing but impressed with his play. He looks like he still has it to me, but already with a sore hammy I wouldn't be surprised if he misses some time in his old age. Still, whenever he has played, he has played well. FFOpie 0 Posted August 30, 2006 Don't get me wrong, I've always liked this guy as a player. I drafted him last year but only used him a week or two I think. But if you take his 05 numbers and nix his 11 yard game before he missed time to injury you get these numbers... 52 yds/3.5 catches/0.3 TD/game (10 games total) Even as a #4 receiver is that worth anything? I'd rather take a chance on a Travis Taylor 50 picks into the WRs.

He still runs great routes, has deep speed, and great hands. He's got way more upside in his old age than Travis Taylor, IMO. Although Taylor will start in Minny, barring a trade, he's like Ike Hilliard...I'd rather swing for the fences in the late rounds than go safe...
adam smitty 0 Posted August 30, 2006 Because Bruce is a HOF type receiver who still has some gas in the tank. If anything he's probably being drafted too late.
beantownbrown 0 Posted August 30, 2006 Because Bruce is a HOF type receiver who still has some gas in the tank. If anything he's probably being drafted too late. Goose is dead. You gotta let him go Mav...you gotta let him go. I feel bad for people who can't see reality. HOF receiver for his career does not make him a good fantasy receiver anymore. Curtis will produce more than Bruce will this year by year's end. Bruce had a great run. Some idiot in my league heard that Holt was having an MRI and actually dropped Frank Gore for Bruce! I have never put a waiver request in so quickly in my life.
