T Man 0 Posted October 1, 2006 I currently own Alex Smith and have the opportunity to grab Vince Young in a keeper league. Who do you figure is the the better option to have as I can only have 1. Leave a link and I'll answer yours. Thanks.
tribefan6254 0 Posted October 1, 2006 Wow tough question. So early in their careers it is too hard to say. I think most people would say V. Young but we have seen a great improvement in smith. I think it is a toss up and you cannot go wrong with either of them.
dx990 0 Posted October 1, 2006 Alex Smith in a landslide. Vince Young has shown little in the small amount he's been in there. You have extra year of experience with Smith, which goes a long way in the NFL. Plus he has a decent offense behind him too.

Young is a season or two away from being considered a huge bust. He doesn't understand the offense and as a result the team can barely move the ball. Smith is emerging as a very solid QB with good weapons around him. His week to week matchups look better to me than Youngs'. I see Young having 1-2 very decent Fantasy games this year vs 5-6 with Smith. Losing his TE hurts but the replacement TE will see a lot of throws his way. I like the fact that Smith is quick with his delivery and understands defenses better at this point in his young career. Best of luck. -Shark
Bigunreal1 0 Posted October 1, 2006 While Young could put up Culpepper-like (from his Viking days) numbers in a few years, he could also be an anemic-producing, overhyped Vick-type. I think Smith is coming along nicely- stay with him.
dnewt69 0 Posted October 1, 2006 I think you're safer with Smith, but the bigger upside is with Young. The problem with Young is there are so many question marks from mechanics to intelligence and ability to lead. There is the possibility though that Young could develop in to a Michael Vick type QB (less of a runner but a much better passer). I guess the question you have to ask yourself is do you want to go with the safe yet not spetacular player (I believe Smith will be serviceable, a qb like leftwich, delhomme or grossman), or a much riskier player with a much higher ceiling (Young has a chance to be in the mold of Mcnabb, a young Randall Cunningham). 26y2k 0 Posted October 1, 2006 As of now A. Smith is more polished and will put up better fantasy numbers in the years to come....it may take Young a few years to become a solid QB

Not that Young won't be good, just that it will take him longer to get there.
