yeah I could have thrown this in the other thread, but it was so special I thought it was deserving of its own thread.

KANSAS NOTEBOOK | Ceremony for Eddie Sutton

The Kansas City Star

Kansas honored legendary Oklahoma State coach Eddie Sutton during a halftime ceremony Wednesday.

Sutton said he’s always had an affection for KU.

“I’ve rooted for Kansas every time they played except when they played us or one of my former assistants,” Sutton said

Sutton is close with KU coach Bill Self, an Oklahoma State alum who once served on Sutton’s staff.

“Bill is one of the coaches that really helped get the OSU program back on track,” Sutton said. “When I got there I knew it was going to be a big rebuilding process. Bill was certainly a big help in that.”

Sutton retired near the end of last season. He won 798 career games.

“If I had known I was going to feel as good as I do today, I’d have thought twice about retiring,” Sutton said.

•Sherron Collins played one of his better games of the season in his Big 12 debut, scoring 10 points and dishing a career-high six assists. The freshman from Chicago played 22 minutes, grabbed three rebounds and hit four of seven field goals.

But what he’ll remember about his first conference game has nothing to do with his stat line.

“This was the loudest I have heard Allen Fieldhouse,” he said. “All my teammates were telling me how loud it was going to be, and I enjoyed it.”

•As is becoming common, Bishop Miege standout junior Travis Releford sat behind KU’s bench Wednesday.

That was pretty remarkable really. They had a program on the video board in his honor, showing all his accomplishments and achievements. Then they showed senior day for Collison and Hinrich when they played OSU (anyone remember that one, where Collison had something crazy like 16 rebounds and Dickie V got up and gave him a standing ovation?), where Sutton ran down the court to give both Hinrich and Collison a hug and tell them congrats.

They also gave him a KU rocking chair and a picture of him shaking hands with Hinrich, and told him they were glad they didnt have to play against him anymore.

Very touching and just goes to show what class the University of Kansas and their fans have :dunno:
