pingpong 0 Posted March 12, 2007 I'm looking to take frau Uderpong on a little adventure vacation for our 10th anniversary. Costa Rica seems to be the place. Anyone ever been there? I will most likely spend 5 nights near the Arenal volcano with various day trips doing whitewater rafting, zip lines, ATV riding, and rappelling. Any geek advice would be
Eagles Green 34 Posted March 12, 2007 It's been a few years, but Costa is nice. Stayed in Langosta, just south of Tamarindo. Surfed a lot, did the zip line canopy tour, and horseback riding on the beach. Stayed at a nice place called the Barcelo Playa Langosta.

All of the fun activities appear to be in the volcano area. We've been to plenty of beach resorts, but never to an active volcano. I am very torn about moving hotels or just staying at 1 place. surferskin 31 Posted March 12, 2007 yeah, i've been twice and stayed in Jaco and Nosara. i don't recommend jaco because it's basically touristy dump. i don't really know much about the central part of the country but i KNOW you're supposed to stay away from the east coast(caribbean) because there's a shiit load of drug problems and stories of violent crime. the west coast, where i've always been, is pretty well known for petty theft...but don't let all this scare you away. costa rica is kinda a rugged but beautiful place...awesome mountains and waves. the next time i go i plan to stay up north. http://www.paradisusplayaconchal.travel/ i'm not roughing it again...i'll be going in style. mainly because i'll prolly be bringing the wife. pingpong 0 Posted March 12, 2007 Here is the hotel that has excellent reviews in tripadvisor.com that I would stay at for a few nights (http://www.arenalvolcanoinn.com/picture_gallery.htm) Some examples of activities are here http://www.sunsettourscr.com/rates.htm. There seems to be plenty of relatively safe stuff to do that is different from the run of the mill beach type stuff. FYI, tripadvisor.com is excellent for researching trips.
