Big_Pete 0 Posted May 2, 2007 I don't think he's only lost internet access...from the sounds of it, that computer is totally unresponsive. Safe boot doesn't work and he has no rescue disk. Might want to try this: http://www.woundedmoon.org/win32/driverescue19d.html if your drive is FAT. May not work on NTFS. It's free. exactly. my computer is completely unresponsive in safe mode. the network connections aren't displayed, and I can't bring them up, just like I can't bring up anything windows related. whatever I picked up totally focked my computer up. Ohh, and it's NTFS Scooter, that wont work, cause I can't uninstall anything, it wont let me, and then when I try to install other stuff, it won't let me do that either. I'm trying to find xp on the internets till I can get my brother to find me my copy. Trust me, I've tried everything I could think of, and I really really really don't want to format, but I can't see any option besides formatting. Ohh, and I tried system restore about 5 times, and it won't run cause whatever problem in windows isn't allowing it to work.
Blitzen 0 Posted May 2, 2007 Final shot: here's where you can get free windows boot disks: http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm See if you can start your comp from a boot disk and then find your stuff on drives... There's also something called XP rescue CD maker that sells for $15. That's all I've got.

I wrote down some of my favorite sites on paper, and as for my music..... somewhere in my house is a removable hard drive. I'll just have my brother look for it and ship it here, cause it has all my music backed up on it. I'm gonna have to DL all my programs again though, which is a pain in the ass, but hopefully I'll get it done soon. I dl'd xp from my newsgroup, but it needs 17 more blocks , so it's incomplete, and now I'm just doing the BT way it's alot slower cause it's dl'ing at 8kbs instead of 750kbs, but ohh well, what you gonna do? football_scooter 0 Posted May 3, 2007 ah - missed the part about the thing locking up. odd that safe mode doesn't work - that seems like it might be a HD issue, or some other hardware problem. In which case formatting might not help either. I've never seen a WinXP or 2K install so corrupt that it wouldn't boot to safe mode, just from installing software. Sounds like it was working great until quick books, then *poof!*? That's weird - from there you should be able to back up to a restore point or at least boot to safe mode and uninstall the offending SW. This could be a symptom of a hard disk that's about to go. In which case you lose everything anyway - sucks. I would pay close attention to reinstall - if anything starts going wonky on you, buy a new HD for that TRS-80 of yours. Another tip: stop downloading midget on midget gay pron.
Big_Pete 0 Posted May 3, 2007 lol @ midget on midget pron. I have a new HD (well, about 6 months old), so I know that isn't the issue. THe thing is that it installed a quick books user account that was all funky. it didn't affect anything till I rebooted my computer for the 1st time, then all hell broke loose. I noticed the same thing on my g/f's computer, so I deleted the user account before the reboot, and her computer has zero problems. Anyways, I formatted my hard drive and started from scratch. I have all my music on a backup HD, but my brother will have to ship it to me. It just sucks that I need to start fresh. I usually format my computer 1-2 times a year anyways, just to clean it up, but at least when I do that, I backup all my stuff and make sure I have the disks to all the programs I run. This is different seeing I couldn't backup anything and I don't have any software disks ohh well, whenever I try to do something and I don't have the program for it, I'll just search it out and install it till I can get all my stuff from my brother back. Foghorn Leghorn 0 Posted May 3, 2007 A harsh way to learn the lesson of creating backups of what you have. Hope you don't lose anything valuable, Big Pete.
Big_Pete 0 Posted May 3, 2007 A harsh way to learn the lesson of creating backups of what you have. Hope you don't lose anything valuable, Big Pete. thanks for the kind words. I've always backed up my stuff, and back at my house in Denver, I have backups of pretty much everything I had, but I'm not in Denver anymore to easily get it. I didn't lose anything of value, just a few things like my 8GB of music that I'll have to wait to get my backup HD from Denver to put back on my computer. I have everything on that backup HD, as well as on DVD's that I've been creating. Too bad none of it is here with me now
