Hefeweizen1 0 Posted August 1, 2007 Okay ive been studying crazy lately, more then normal for this time of year. My normal $$$ league is deciding to jump over to auction instead of our old snake draft. Ive been reading many peoples strategys as well as advice for how to spend my money. We pretty much are using standard scoring 1 point for 10 rush/receiving, 1 point 25 pass yards ,TD's thrown woth 4 rush/received 6. We are using 100 mil with 1 mil min. 2 QB's spend 12 on the starter and 1 on backup try to land a Dree Brees or a Marc Bulger and then nail a sleeper late with the 1 4 RB's spend 24 on both #1 and #2 backs try to land two of these addai,Parker, R Johnson, Westbrook. Then using 7 to land 2 sleepers/rookies 4 WR's Spend 16 on #1 try to land a TO or Harrison or wayne then use 8 on the #2 like a Andre Johnson or a Plexico and then use the min on the #3 and 4 and take a couple sleepers 2 TE's Spend min on both and play for matchup 2 K Spend min on both 2 Def spend min I think this works out to be about 100 any thoughts would be great. The one thing I see is that my Wr's would be thin. I know everything depends on how the draft goes but having a solid strategy has done me well in the past for my drafts. Cuse9 130 Posted August 1, 2007 Looks like you have it down. Good plan. My only suggestion is don't throw out anyone you really want until midway through the draft. Definitly throw out guys names that you know other people really want. Drive their price up!! Auctions are alot of fun.
bdaddy407 0 Posted August 1, 2007 auctions are out of my league right now, but thanks for posting on mine!!!
Stewburtx8 67 Posted August 1, 2007 Yeah looks like you've done your homework. I've never done a auction draft in football but did a ton in baseball. One rule is, don't EVER tell yourself that you HAVE to have someone. You'll end up overpaying. I like your thought of making sure you get two good RB's that your comfortable with. But remember others may have the same ideas so don't overpay. Look for value at all times. And I agree with Cuse, you want to throw out names of guys you just don't like or have no intention of bidding on. So if your plan is to not go for LT or SJax, make sure those guys get out there ASAP. You want to eliminate as many owners as possible from bidding on the guys you really want. It's highly unlikely that whoever gets LT or SJax can even think about bidding on Addai, Westy, Parker, etc, which is good for your strategy. Good luck. I need to get in an auction league for football soon. I always like trying new things in fantasy.

My main league is also leaning toward an auction draft. This info is great. What other sites besides this are helpful? Would you use the same strategy if scoring was the same as above but PPR? In other words in PPR would the above strategy leave you too weak at WR?
Cuse9 130 Posted August 1, 2007 Thanks for checking mine. You asked me to check yours but I already did. Your strategy seems on point.
WoodDuck2003 0 Posted August 2, 2007 Yes overall a good strategy. The one area that you might be able to get a bargin is at QB. Since TDs are only worth 4 this position is not quite as critical. If you are not going to target Manning there is the next tier (Brees/Brady/Bulger/Palmer), then the next tier. In my mind, if you are not targeting Manning, this is where you want to be in this type of scoring format. A guy like Kitna/E.Manning/V.Young etc is much better value. Th money you save here you could use at your WR position in hopes of getting a better quality #2WR. Rec TDs are worth 6. I will say it is all about driving the price up on players that are in hight demand and looking to sneak some good ones. I usually start bidding on players I am almost certain I am not going to take to drive the price up then once it starts slowing down back out. When a player is coming up that I think I can get at the price I want I do not enter the biding until it is about to be sold! Typically, once you enter a bid then back out you can not re-enter the bidding. They real key is finding the value picks on the big guys and tiering is huge in acution style since usually there is a big money drop. Target the guys high in a lower tier over guys low in a higher tier. Hope this make sense but to really max you money you are going to have to take some risk, don't buy into the "hype" players and the couple of players you are going to spend BIG on make sure they are proven (LT, Manning, S.Smith, etc.) not hype guys. Good luck and hope this helps.
