phlegmish 4 Posted December 20, 2007 Looking for info on their injury history? character issues? contact status? Grant and Graham Grant - great prep history in Georgia, and decent years at ND but got stuck behind Darius Walker. got bad advice and left as junior and went undrafted. great character according to report i read a while back (sorry can't find link for it). UFA rookie (out of ND for 2 yrs i think) so he probably signed 5 yr deal on the cheap Graham - backup in college until senior year and first three years as pro. stats for Fla first 3 yrs was 52/215/0. sr year 213/877/10. pro stats for first four years are nearly identical (YTD vs sr year actually is completely identical, weird). UFA in 4th season, prolly contract year next season. If you're looking for who might be worth a cheap keeper Grant by far. Graham, as good as he is doing, has been last kept RB by TB 4 yrs in a row and only is playing due to all the other injury problems they've had. Gruden will certainly keep him, but Caddy returns at some point and is far superior football talent. Pittman and Bennett wont be back, but Graham was 5th string behind even Zach Crockett when season started. I almost puke thinking of how Caddy would be doing the way their line has been this year if he didn't get hurt:-(

phlegmish 4 Posted December 20, 2007 Yet he doesn't play as good. Over the last few weeks Graham has been one of the most consistent runners in the NFL. um, he plays much better when he isnt getting hit 4yds deep. if graham "played better" he wouldn't be 5th string RB 4yrs in row now would he? any schmoe who makes the pros is good enough if holes are gaping and first contact is LB or safety. you're mistaking O-Line improvement for RB skills. I answered questions as posted by rat bastard with assumption he was looking for long term viability, not who's hot right now. 28 year old 5th stringers, who didnt even start in college until senior year don't seem to have much long term potential.... Yes but your assessment of Williams is wrong. I didn't realize the credit for the TB running game improvement was 100% the result of the O-line improving. I never heard that one before after there was a change in starting RBs. Too bad Caddy isn't playing he'd be approaching 2000 yards right now. If I owned Caddy I would want to return him under the "lemon" law. Imagine the #5 pick in the draft that can't out perform a schmoe.

Williams averaged 3.9 yards a carry and had 3 scores in 3+ games before going out. Graham is averaging 4.1 yards a carry and has 10 scores in 10 games starting. There doesn't really seem to be much difference in those averages.

I am not scared of Caddy coming back. I am scared of Favre leaving.

I was just going to add this. Grahams situation in Tampa is very similiar to Betts situation in Washington last year. Both Betts and Graham are older guys who have been around but did a nice job filling in for a half season or so.

Apples to oranges don't you think?

Apples to oranges don't you think? Not really in this instance. Like I pointed out earlier in this thread, Graham is averaging pretty much the same numbers Williams did before he went out. He is only at 4.1 yards a carry and that number is actually higher than his average as a starter. He also will be 28 in less than a month. If you had to pcik between the two guys you are talking about, it would seem Grant would have much more upside. But it is the NFL and Green Bay could bring in another guy or Williams could recover well and be ready for next season. I myself just don't see Graham having any real long term value.
