Yardage Tiers

Recommended Posts

Mike

I am pretty sure that the compiler can't accomadate this but i wanted to ask. Our league for all positions allows gradations in points for yardage. For example, for running backs you get 1 pt for every 10 yards up to 70 yards, 2 pts for every 10 yds from 70 to 140 and 3 pts for every 10 yds for all yds above 140. This holds for QB's, WR's, TE's.

Thanks for your help - I have used the compiler / draft buddy for 5 years now and it is so nice to use during the draft.

You're right, it can't do it exactly. The reason is because we don't have projections in the Compiler that are weekly, they are for the full season. Weekly projections at this stage of the game would be highly speculative. I really don't think you guys want us playing that game ... basically, playing with the numbers. Due to each player's weekly results fluctuating quite a bit, dividing the season projections by 16 is not the answer.

The best we can do is try to use the existing scoring options to get as close as we can to your league's scoring system. For example, for rushing yards I might suggest using 1 per 10 in the regular scoring option, and then a +3 for the 100-yard bonus. Then you've got the exact correct scoring for 1-70 yards, and 100 yards. Then you are slightly understated for 80-90 yards, and 110 and up. Thing is, the higher the yards get the less likely a player is going to hit them (and less we want to predict them for ranking your players). I'm not saying the players won't hit them, but how many fantasy points are we off here keeping in mind that projections are prone to error/variance anyway.

In short, I'd try the suggested 1 per 10, and +3 for 100. Once you run the Compiler if the projected fantasy points seem a little light, then you might want to bump that up a little, to say 1.1 or 1.2 per 10, and +4 for 100.

Thanks for the continued support tmk88

Mike

Thanks,

After some tweaking I was able to get the points more in line with our leagues points.

That's exactly our scoring on WRs. Our scores are different on other positions.

Just yesterday I did some figuring of what my settings should be. It worked like this: I made a list of the top 50 WRs, and how many points they actually scored last year. I subtracted the points that were due to every other scoring category (TDs, receptions, and whatever else). The remaining points were therefore solely due to the receiving yardage. For each player I divided their yardage totals by the number of yardage points. I then tried different values of the 100+ games setting in order to minimize the standard deviation of the pts/yard. The end results was 1.1 point for every 10 receving yards, with 6 points for every 100 yard game.

Am I explaining what I did properly? I can show a spreadsheet of what I did if anyone's interested (probably would make more sense). Did the same thing for RBs, (under a different scoring system), and their 100+ rushing was also 6. I was surprised by that, so I did it for TEs (also in a different scoring system) and it was only like .5 a point per TE 100+ receiving game.

I imagine the 6 pt per 100 yard game means that WRs who go over 100 yards receiving must average 130 yards (which would give an additional 6 points in this scoring system).
