zhinz 0 Posted August 12, 2008 It's been a while since I needed to ask a question, Mike. But I'm in a new league this year that is going to go 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE, K, DEF, and Off Flex (which can be QB, WR, or RB). Now, I knew already from the sound of it that the best course of action is starting 2 QBs (we only do 3 pts per passing TD, but 2 for every 25 passing yds). But I wanted to get verification from the compiler. So I entered the one O-Flex and compiled. And I didn't see what I was looking to see. After fiddling with it for a while, I remembered you saying that we need to change the baseline for 2 QB leagues. It's got to be one of the last 3 (Last Starter, Median Player, or Last Player), right? We also do a hard position cap, where we have to draft 2 QBs, 4 WRs, 4 RBs, 2 TEs, 2 Ks, 2 DEFs, and 1 open position. I have no idea how that open position is going to shake out. We're either going to be 10 teams or 12. If we're 12, I know the best course of action is to get a 3rd QB (one I'm sure is starting), because the difference between having a 3rd QB and not having 1 for bye weeks is a pretty big deal. But if we end up with only 10 teams, then drafting a 3rd QB isn't as big a priority, as there should be a starting QB available for a bye week start. So that's QBs, and the rest of the backups would be some combination of RB, WR, and TE. (Yes, TE. Our TE scoring is such that the 25th TE is projected for more points than the 49th RB or WR). I wish I could set up an offensive flex backup, where it would take the highest backup available. I know backups aren't a huge deal, but I'm such a perfectionist, that unless I figure out what to enter it'll drive me crazy. Any thoughts? I guess I'll have to prepare two sets of numbers, and then enter them once I see how many teams we'll have.
Mike MacGregor 20 Posted August 13, 2008 Hey Zac. Its been a little quiet around here... or seems quieter than prior years. Its been a while since you've had to answer a few questions over here too I may have said long ago to change the baseline for 2 QB leagues, but I'm not sure that still applies, honestly. I set up and drafted a 2 QB league this past Sunday and I think the Compiler overall rankings using the draft pick recommended were pretty much what I expected. It was normal scoring, but start 2 QB, 3 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE plus DEF and IDP. 12 team league. In your case it really is going to depend on the scoring (which sounds non-normal in your case) and starters at each position to assess if you do absolutely want/need 2 QB to win the league, or if the available RB and WR and TE are just as good options to start for that flex spot. What didn't you like about the results from using the O-Flex spot? Even at 12 teams if you feel comfortable getting value at RB and WR, you can probably secure 3 good to decent QB with some emphasis on the position in your draft. In that 12 teamer I was in mentioned above I got Brady (1st), Cutler (6th) and Leinart (11th). I'm off a bit at RB (no surprise) with Jones-Drew (2nd), Reggie Bush (3rd), Selvin Young (8th) and Felix Jones (10th), but if QB is that important, and I think it is in my league, I'd rather pay more there and skimp a bit at RB and WR. I'd post the draft results for that league but it was on Yahoo. I guess I could post the Buddy schedules, if interested.
HBK22 0 Posted August 13, 2008 Mike I'd love to see a 2QB league's draft - my big one is a 2QB league and there's never enough good data for them, even though they are in my opinion a superior format.
Mike MacGregor 20 Posted August 13, 2008 Okay, lets see if I can do this. Now I will say, I'm not sure how representative this league is to everyone else's league. While trying not to insult my fellow owners in this league, there was some or a lot of this going on: - overvalued homer picks - ignoring defense (IDP) - not putting enough emphasis on the fact we do start 2 QBs, at least early Maybe this is entirely representative of your leagues! This is a first year league, and I didn't really know most of the guys in it. It is on Yahoo, but for a little money $25, so not the typical "oh, you're in a Yahoo league" public league setting. It is total points. I have a hard time imagining I don't finish in the top 3 here. Draft results by round Draft results by team Draft summary totals
