Big_Pete 0 Posted September 2, 2008 So a lady friend of mine (34C fake) has a 1997 mitsubishi mirage. It wont start. And I mean that when you turn the key, nothing happens, not even an attempt to turn over. She has a charged battery, all the electronics work, but it won't even begin to think about turning over. I thought maybe a selenoid, but then out of the blue, it turned over with no problems. But now it's back to not doing anything. What could be wrong with it? it's a 4door automatic. Is it the starter? the selenoid? the ignition switch? Should I just fock her on the hood and hope the electricity starts the focker up? I left you a voicemail, but who knows when you ever check your phone. Thanks bro.
hdamien 0 Posted September 2, 2008 Neutral Position Sensor is my guess. If it won't start again, have her try to slightly move the shifter between Park and Reverse while turning the key. If it suddenly starts turning over while she's moving the shifter around, that's your problem. Or have her put it in Neutral and try and try it.

First of all, make SURE that the battery + and - cables are securely tightened. (at the battery and at the starter) Make sure that the ignition fuse is firmly in place. Does this vehicle have an alarm system with an "starter kill"? Is she getting power to everything else? (radio, ac, etc) Next time you try and start it up, tap the starter with a screwdriver, hammer, your cack, whatever and see if it starts... Aww, fock it..I'll give you a call... I'll give this a try, or tell her to try it seeing I'm at work. First of all, make SURE that the battery + and - cables are securely tightened. Assuming that it's an automatic, possible nice call Do you have a history in the auto biz?
Big_Pete 0 Posted September 3, 2008 Assuming that it's an automatic, possible nice call I actually made sure she pulled it out of park and back into park very first thing. But it still didn't work. I never told her to try to start it while she was going through gears though.

Wife had the exact same issue with her '98 Jeep Cherokee, so I'm pretty familiar with it. No history, but do most auto repairs myself. Hobby I guess.

I do it for a living 18+ years of hell The last thing that I want to do when I get home is work on cars. At least with this place, I have helped a couple fockheads out, which makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Also, Were you talking about a "neutral safety switch"? I haven't heard the terminology of "Neutral position sensor" before, but I assume it is the same thing. Probably just a case of different manufacturers naming the same thing different. Yeah, the Neutral Safety Switch. I just made up neutral position sensor, I couldn't remember the real name.
