Buy low on Steven Jackson?

Recommended Posts

So the Colston owner in my league is having a rough time of it. He's 0-2 and 60 points behind the nearest competitor after 2 weeks (leader is at around 270, he's at 140). We're in a 10-team league starting 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1W/R, 1TE, 1DST, and 1K with .5 PPR, and he's been sending Steven Jackson, MJD, #85, and Torry Holt into the fray. His next best RB is Edge. You can see why he's having a hard time.

Skip over to me. I'm 0-2 as well, but in less disastrous fashion--I only lost this week because of the DeSean heard 'round the world, and am in the middle of the pack points wise with a favorable matchup in week 3. Mostly I'm down because of LT and Braylon starting slow. I'm thinking this might be a good opportunity to go for his Jackson with a package of Earnest Graham and DeSean--he's really hurting, and needs immediate improvements at both positions. My roster:

QB: Brees, Garrard

WR: Edwards, Welker, DeSean, Patten, Mason

RB: LT, Graham, T. Jones, S. Young, S. Morris, F. Jones, Hightower

TE: Gonzalez

K: Crosby

DST: NYG

So, do you think someone in a dire situation like that would go for the package? And, if he does, is it worth pursuing, or should I just hold position? Leave yours and I'll drop in with my thoughts as well.

Jackson is a great running back right now, I would put him ahead of everyone besides, LT, AP, and Gore. Looking at your team however, I would suggest you trade for a marquee receiver. Part of the reason you are 0-2 has to be because the lack of production by your WRs...so see who you can trade for or pull off the waiver wire. To answer your question the trade is decent but it may not be what your team needs.

I generally agree--I just saw the opportunity and thought it was a best-available sort of situation.

My #1 plan has been to deal T. Jones or Graham + DeSean or Welker for a big-name receiver, but to do that I'd really like to have another starting back on the bench since LT is struggling early as well. Unfortunately, I need one of my bench guys to blow up before I can turn any of them into a better asset. The Andre Johnson owner is also in shambles (he had Brady and top RBs are LJ and Maroney), but even good players at both positions doesn't seem to be enough to get him to unload his best guy. I don't blame him, really.

The WW has Kevin Walter and Bryant Johnson, so I may ditch Sammy Morris for one of them, even though I probably wouldn't start either this weekend. Don't really want any of that New England RB situation right now.

Any thoughts on the caliber of WR that should be had for either T. Jones or Graham straight up, or with a DeSean/Welker kicker?

Agreed. Bundle one of your RB's and a WR for a stud WR.

While Sjax would be nice, your receivers will still be letting you down. But if you really want SJax, I think that would be a good trade. He'll turn things around.

While a great WR would be a better fit, this is still a great opportunity to build some depth. S.Jax can only go up and he'll get half the Ram's offense- whatever that may be. I am high on Graham, but giving up Desean isn't really that much more. Have you tried to peddle T.Jones? He's the first guy I'd try to dangle. If not, make the offer. He could be desperate enough to go for it.

T. Jones straight up, or T. Jones with DeSean? We are all UVA grads, so there is a certain psychological appeal to Jones.

Oh, and my idea behind including DeSean was just that he needs some more WR help while Colston is out. I actually think Welker would be a better fit for that deal, but Welker's got a bye in week 4, which makes the idea of spelling the injured Colston seem a little disingenuous.

You have to separate yourself from that We Tigers :D . I'm a Penn State grad, but I'm not touching Engram, LJ or Kerry Collins to name a few stinkers. I'll just say that I like Graham more than T.Jones. I'm in NJ and watch alot of Jets. They're the same old Jets. Almost lost to Miami in week 1. Only a matter of time before Leon Washington toting the ball.

I put Graham over Jones too, no question. To be more clear, I should have said that Jones might have extra appeal to any of my trading partners because of the connection.

Oh, and speaking of Penn State, you definitely should pick up Michael Robinson--with the Seahawks WR issues, I'm sure they'll be calling the 49ers about him any day now once Koren hits the bottle again. Maybe he can wreck his groin just like Seneca.

I'd say if you can acquire SJax, by al means do so as he should still get his as the season wears on. I'd be surprised, UVA appeal or no, if he accepted T. Jones straight up for SJax, but if he will do it. Otherwise, I still think you're getting a good deal by packaging DeSean, so go for it...

I would try to get SJax if you can I think he turns it up next few games... plus I like the Playoff schedule he has. Once he start playing those 49'ers and the Seatles of the worlds things will get better for those RAMS!

As for WR maybe you can trade DeSean and Graham for a better WR too, there is no rule that you can't trade more then once...
