QB and TE Playoff Decision

Recommended Posts

I've got Peyton or Cutler, and O Daniels or K Boss at TE.

I'm most likely starting Boss because Daniels is garbage.

Peyton v Cutler is more interesting and important. Both have cake matchups. My one fear with Peyton is they may try to use the running game against CIN and should be able to easily win without risking the deep ball too much. DEN also is getting the running game going but KC has been able to score lately. Cutler is a great talent but can put up a stinker every so often.

What say you??

Let me preface this answer by saying that I am a Colts fan. I would start Manning here. Not because I am a Colts fan but because of the reasons below:

i) The Colts have had one 100 yard rushing game, against the Texans, but the way the Colts run the ball or set up the run is with the pass. Most teams set the pass up with the run but not the Colts, they set the run with the pass. So, even though the Bengals run D is horrific, the Colts will still pass, too much WR talent to not use it. The Texans kept their safeties deep and invited the Colts to run, they did and got 100 yards and got only 1 TD for Addai. But the Texans scored as well and Manning went no huddle and smoked them and had good numbers.

ii) When Drew Brees had a matchup with the Chiefs, they play good zone coverage that makes it more difficult to pass on them than to run on them. Hence their horrific run D and better pass D. I owned Drew Brees in a league and he got me less than 20 points against the Chiefs.

iii) The Bengals secondary is a bit banged up, so they will try to keep Manning off the field and will run the ball against the Colts. So Manning will make the most out of the chances he gets, the Colts are #2, I think in red zone TD production, thanks to Manning.

I feel that after the offense sputtered in the Browns game, Manning is eager to get the offense back on track and will have better numbers than Cutler. He is a safer choice, in my opinion. Cutler would be using Peyton Hillis more against the Chiefs than usual.

As far as TE is concerned, the Eagles will pay a lot of attention to Brandon Jacobs, so they set themselves up for play action real well. So, Kevin Boss is my pick. Owen Daniels has seen a drop in production due to the emergence of Kevin Walter in the slot. He had better numbers earlier in the season since he was the only underneath relief valve if the Texans could not go longer with Andre Johnson. Now, Kevin Walter takes a lot away. Kevin Boss does not have such issues since the Giants run the ball a lot and he sees the field a lot for run blocking as well.

I would honestly go with Cutler there in a game that could turn into a possible shootout with lots of points on both ends. I would expect numbers like his Cleveland game but I could see 250-275yds and 2tds which I don't think Manning will do much better.

Then I would go Boss at TE.
