The "Early Trader" strategy. And how to get insurance on a player.

Recommended Posts

Just as you guys were alluding to in another thread, FF is a lot like poker. And as more people play, you have a wider range of players, just like poker, but STRATEGY is purely part of the game.

The very first week I see what people I can trade with. I send out a lot of offers, to get an idea of who I am dealing with. This year I traded the Hardesty owner Hillis and Ted Ginn (return yards league) for Gostowski and Jhavid Best. It's almost like moving up in the draft, if you can pull off a trade like this. It was a good deal for both teams though, as his team autodrafted him Hardesty, Avery and 2 kickers. I also assisted him in advising he pick up Chris Chambers. He is weak at WR.

Anyway, I have made a lot of trade offers out, and a couple got declined, but one came back. Brandon Jacobs and Devin Hester for Best and McCluster. So, here's the insurance. I don't hafta accept or decline that trade right away. If the owner who offered it is sloppy, and doesn't cancel it, I can watch Best play tomorrow and THEN decide. If Best breaks his leg, I can accept the trade. I would not insist that the trade go through, but I would get some some leverage there.

All my trade offers that I have out, will be canceled before game time, for this exact reason.

Shady, or strategy? The point is, if you don't pay attention, you might get taken advantage of. My advice to you would be, pay attention. Don't be sloppy. Don't offer up insurance like this. Cancel your trade offers that have gone ignored.

Why oh why can I not play in league's where a top 15 RB and a top notch kicker get traded for a second string RB on Cleveland and a kick returner who sucks?

You could also look at it as:

The Goal Line vulture in Clevelenad, who can catch AND block, who might soon be the starter in Cleveland if the 5' 9" (generous) 205 pound starter can't hold up, now that Hardesty is out, Him .... for a kicker. AND ... a return specialist, with a chance on a new team to have a breakout year. Could be HUGE in this scoring system, for a rookie that plays for the Lions.

Yeah, I sold it good. So what, I got the better end of a trade. Unfair? Suck my balls, I'm treasurer of the league, to boot.

I really think the player I traded with is getting more stability and less risk. My upside is huge, granted, Best could be the top RB in fantasy this year. But so could Hillis, for that matter. It's a good trade for both teams.

Sigh. In this scoring system (return yards league) Ginn is good. Outscored Santana Moss LAST year. So Ginn for Best is fair, as is Hillis for a kicker. Some people in the league complained that it was "lopsided" but I think everyone is jumping to coclusions that Best is gonna be awesome and Ginn is gonna suck. Best is a rookie. It's speculative. Ginn, I think has a lower bottom and about an equal upside. It's a safer play for him, I will gamble with Best, and now I have some insurance.

Team A is weak at RB

Team B is weak at WR and drafted 2 kickers.

Team A trades a WR and a backup RB for a rookie RB with a lot of potential, and a Kicker.

Unfair?

I have:

Jhavid Best

Jamal Charles/Thomas Jones

Felix Jones

Fred Jackson

Darren Sproles

and McCluster can be listed as RB

Guess which RB is predictorded to score the most points? In my scoring system?

Yep. Sproles.
