Kroger Jalapeno Poppers review

Ok, I have had a variety of Jalapeno poppers. My favorite is the Safeway "Gorgonzola Gems" where you are looking at 8-10 "gems" per box .... usually $3.99.

 

The Kroger version was 19 FAT poppers in a bag that looked like it might have 30 in it but only has 20. Have a chipolte cream cheese filling for $4.99. On sale. So obviously you get more from Koger, for the cost ... but some are not bite sized .... might explode and burn your lip. Migjht "pop".

 

I can only give the Kroger poppers ..... 3 out of 4 stars. And that's just because I love poppers.

 

Based on comparison to other grocery store jalapeno poppers I have had .... I'd say they are right about in the middle of the pack. I am still partial to Safeway's "Gorgonzola Gems" which I would put at about 3.9 out of 4 stars.If dipped in a good Blue Cheese dressing. Very tasty.

 

It's deep fried cheese. Alls it's missing is bacon to be right up there at 4 stars.

Jalapeno poppers are excellent... Howvever no matter where i get them, they always taste pretty much the exact same... Cheesewhiz and pepper fried... I may buy some for NYE now, good thinking.

If you use a chunky blue cheese, which is pretty much a Gorgonzola .... it accentuates the Gorgonzola Gem taste, As a matter of fact, I would suggest making a dip with the moldiest, stinkiest blue cheese you can find. Make a REAL blue cheese dip ... makes all the difference.

 

That's why my Kroger "chipolte poppers" still get 3 of 4 stars. THEY ARE WHAT YOU THINK THEY ARE! You wanna crown 'em? Crown 'em! You wanna dip them in salsa or put Tobasco on 'em ....be my guest. Lowest I might rate a popper is 2.5.

 

I like Safeway, Gorgonzola Gems ,,, better. 3.9 with the right dip.

 

Dipped in blue cheese dressing, of course. Without dressing it drops to like a 3.1.

 

It's hard for me to think of another food I like more. Crab legs .... could eat them every day .... too expensive. Fresh seafood in general. If money was no object, I would eat a lot of fresh seafood.

safeway, kroger and winn dixie aren't northeast grocers... We have Shaws and Stop N Shop here, plus the BJs/Costco type places. I've never been disappointed with a brand of poppers... Agreed that a solid blue cheese dip makes all the difference...

I got some store made poppers that were pretty bad. Even good blue cheese couldn't save them, Was like burnt corn-dog tasting. Not made right. Made from real jalapenos, stuffed with real cheese ... just the batter was bad maybe.

 

Sux has made them before where he first fire roasted the jalapenos over an open mesquite fire. Flames licking the sky! OK, well that bald dude from the videos was there ,,,, close enough, We all know he was licking something. Then he stuffed and battered them. They look like they might fall apart in the deep fry .... but yer gonna hafta ask Sux on how they rate. They might be the most awesome jalapeno poppers ever made, might not be worth the work. I didn't get to try one.

 

So ....yer gonna hafta ask Sux. How do they rank vs store bought which I rate 2.5-3.9 .... depending on dip and filling.

What is my top .... most favorite thing ever?

 

There's a place in the meat packing district called Florent. It's pretty famous it was in such movies as Men in Black. It used to be open, might still be .... until like 5 AM .... then would re-open at 7 AM .... and they had .... the best focking Paté deal ..... ever. They had a goose liver paté made with champagne that they served with enough french bread to make a sandwich, butter, a really spicy and really good mustard. Cornichons and greek olives. Was like 8 bucks, back in the day. Way to cheap, for a really top quality French snack.

 

It used to be my favorite late night snack after the bars closed.

 

They actually have 2 kinds of paté if you like the chunkier stuff .... I like it smooth. One of the best deals in NYC .... the Florent pate de champagne with cornichon and olives. The mustard is also, really good. Hot but really good. Extra bread is cheap or free. Enough of a snack for 2 if only one of you likes olives. If you are both fat pigs .... you can order 2. And an omlette, and a croque monsieur .... it's not on the menu but they will make you one if you ask.

 

What a focking sandwich .... it's just toasted bread, ham and melted cheese. Not even an attempt to get a vegetable in there.

Nevermind ....that neighborhood became too cool for Florent. It's gone you missed it. Was a time, that is now gone. Used to love going there at like 4 AM. I was on my way there to pick up an order of paté the night I got attacked and pepper sprayed by transvestites. Not sure why they attacked me to this day .... they likely assumed I was there to try and pick up a tranny hooker. Just wanted a late night snack. Still made it to Florent and got my food, all swollen eyes .... "Tell everyone to watch out for 2 black trannies with pepper spray."

 

Cops came. Whole deal. Was not normal for the area. Later, was in the news, I am sure it was the same 2 guys. They pretended to be undercover cops, and would rob Johns in the area. Was in the papers. "Psycho Trannies on the Loose"

 

Next day my brother said, "Why don't you tell me how you really lost your glasses."

 

And I said, "Dude ..... would I make up that I got attacked and blinded by a couple trannies?"

 

I mean, if I was gonna make up a story .... that would not be it.

 

Last thing I was concerned with was my glasses, when outta the blue 2 transvestites pepper spray me, and start punching me ..... I dunno what they want, but I came up with an uppercut that was a friggin haymaker ... and if they wanna get on me .... I'm gonna knock a mother focker out. I wasn't totally blind, but I was throwing some wild punches that were meant to knock a motherfocker out .... and wiffing. So they ran away. Pussies. Took my glasses, I guess. Never found them. Cop even walked me around with a flashlight .... never found my glasses. Like a year later they got busted for impersonating undercover cops.

 

It's a tip that NYC cops .... REALLY don't like it when you are some idiot vigilante. They have a system where they bust the guys that are picking up the tranny hos. They don't need your help!

 

I was just going to pick up my paté order. Also. I lived in the area. So .... misguided anger, a little bit?

 

I'd still love to get a chance to box with the focker that pepper sprayed me. One punch ,,,, just couldn't land it and he woulda been out. Unconcious. He's lucky he ran away.

 

WWYD if you got attacked by 2 black guys in wigs .... with pepper spray?

 

I was ready to fight for my friggin life ..... not sure what their plan was. Didn't have time to think about it. I was gonna kill a muthafugga .... if I could see well enough to find him and grab on, he was gonna get pinned in the middle of the focking street. But they ran away. Couldn't catch one.
