Berserker7 0 Posted August 25, 2011 So my 14 team fantasy league is a just a little bit different in its scoring setup. The open slots on the roster is as follows QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, W/T, K, DEF, D, D, D, D, D, BN, BN, BN, BN The thing that is different about this is when we draft, we pick 2 team defenses. Our 5 D positions have to be filled by members of the team we are playing in the DEF slot that week. The scoring is also different as it goes like this. Passing Attempts 0 Completions 2 Incomplete Passes -.5 Passing Yards 20 yards per point; 2 points at 300 yards Passing Touchdowns 6 Interceptions -4 Rushing Attempts 0 Rushing Yards 7 yards per point; 2 points at 100 yards Rushing Touchdowns 6 Receptions 2 Reception Yards 15 yards per point; 2 points at 100 yards Reception Touchdowns 6 Return Yards 15 yards per point Return Touchdowns 8 Fumbles -2 Kickers League Value Field Goals 0-19 Yards 3 Field Goals 20-29 Yards 4 Field Goals 30-39 Yards 5 Field Goals 40-49 Yards 7 Field Goals 50+ Yards 10 Point After Attempt Made 1 Defense/Special Teams Points Allowed 0 points 10 Points Allowed 1-6 points 8 Points Allowed 7-13 points 6 Points Allowed 14-20 points 4 Points Allowed 21-27 points 2 Defensive Players Tackle Solo 2 Tackle Assist 1 Sack 6 Interception 6 Fumble Force 4 Fumble Recovery 4 Defensive Touchdown 8 Safety 8 Pass Defended 3 Block Kick 5 The majority of that I can easily plug into the file, but I was looking for a way to put the negative for completions in and figure out a way to rank the defenses better. Any thoughts on how I might be able to accomplish this?
Mike MacGregor 20 Posted August 25, 2011 Hi Berserker. To do an incomplete pass at -0.5 per incompletion, all you need to do is put in -0.5 per attempt, and +0.5 per completion. That will net out to -0.5 per incompletion. So, we would need to add the 2 you give separately for completions, so your scoring now looks like -0.5 per attempt, and +2.5 per completion. That should do it. On the defense thing, so I'm understanding, you pick a team - 2 teams actually - and you only score points for the team for points against. Is that right? But the 5 individual players you put in your starting lineup each week much be from those 2 teams? I have never heard of that before Very interesting idea though. I'm not sure how we would go about ranking them. Once you have a team then no one else can claim players from that team? So we want to see what group of players (by team) sum up to the most projected stats, I suppose. Is that right?

Yeah, we each draft 2 team defenses and only score points from the points against the team we play each week. The two teams are yours and only you can play players from either team but you can only play one team at a time, ex: last year I had Minn and Indy as my DEF, I could either play all Minn or all Indy but not some of both. My final roster last year looked like this. Michael Crabtree (SF - WR) Tim Hightower (Was - RB) Fred Jackson (Buf - RB) Jacoby Jones (Hou - WR) Peyton Manning (Ind - QB) Robert Meachem (NO - WR) Knowshon Moreno (Den - RB) Clinton Portis (Was - RB) Tony Romo (Dal - QB) Eddie Royal (Den - WR) Visanthe Shiancoe (Min - TE) Ryan Longwell (Min - K) Minnesota (Min - DEF) Jared Allen (Min - DE) Chad Greenway (Min - LB) E.J. Henderson (Min - LB) Antoine Winfield (Min - CB) Madieu Williams (SF - S) This is also a partial keeper league, we get to keep two players from last years roster taking our 1st and 2nd round picks. I used to always keep Peyton and LT but traded LT 2 seasons ago. With all the ?'s around Peyton this year, I am wondering if I will need to grab another QB earlier or not. Mike MacGregor 20 Posted August 25, 2011 I just ran a little database query on our 2011 projections and came up with the total Tackles, Assists and Sacks by team per our projections: +---------+--------+--------+------+ | TeamAbb | Tackle | Assist | Sack | +---------+--------+--------+------+ | ARI | 358 | 83 | 16.5 | | ATL | 457 | 96 | 24.5 | | BAL | 404 | 130 | 18.0 | | BUF | 646 | 241 | 25.0 | | CAR | 636 | 167 | 28.5 | | CHI | 376 | 105 | 21.0 | | CIN | 313 | 104 | 18.0 | | CLE | 518 | 165 | 20.0 | | DAL | 441 | 128 | 27.5 | | DEN | 372 | 105 | 29.0 | | DET | 561 | 201 | 37.0 | | GB | 499 | 145 | 36.0 | | HOU | 405 | 121 | 14.5 | | IND | 433 | 152 | 24.0 | | JAC | 163 | 56 | 10.0 | | KC | 370 | 85 | 17.5 | | MIA | 348 | 76 | 21.0 | | MIN | 367 | 118 | 23.5 | | NE | 491 | 203 | 18.0 | | NO | 493 | 141 | 28.5 | | NYG | 457 | 129 | 38.5 | | NYJ | 380 | 133 | 14.0 | | OAK | 447 | 139 | 42.5 | | PHI | 476 | 135 | 28.5 | | PIT | 372 | 135 | 38.0 | | SD | 254 | 64 | 12.0 | | SEA | 343 | 82 | 16.5 | | SF | 529 | 150 | 31.0 | | STL | 441 | 85 | 26.0 | | TB | 317 | 86 | 18.5 | | TEN | 512 | 135 | 26.0 | | WAS | 398 | 136 | 15.0 | +---------+--------+--------+------+ 32 rows in set (0.00 sec) Now, the problem with this is the projections go 70-80 players deep, and won't necessarily include every player accumulating tackles, assists and sacks for each team, so some teams might just have a higher total because they have one more player included for their team. This might be a decent starting point. You could copy this into a blank spreadsheet, calculate the fantasy points and sort it from highest to lowest.
