Serious Linguistic Questions

Recommended Posts

So one of the things on the nearly endless list of things that piss me off are romance languages. I hate them. For one very good reason. The whole masculine and feminine thing. I mean, it's just stupid. Wait a minute so the table ismasculine but the chairs are feminine? Or vice versa?

Makes no sense whatsoever. In English and other languages, you have a common predecessor, THE. Or whatever. We're not trying to figure out whether it should be Tho, La,El,Los, Las, etc.  Linguistically and practically, it's worthless.

Sandwich=El Sandwich.

Great,  now you speak Spanish.

But that's just background.  French is just as goofy.

How does that chit work now that everybody & everything can just randomly choose their pronouns?

What if the chair identifies as a girl?

The table as 'they"?

The sammich as an Otter?

Really, I don't know how that works now.

They should just get rid of precedent articles all together .
