larrymcirish 0 Posted June 24, 2006 On our draft day, we grab a beer (or 20) & draw numbers out of a hat for draft order. In my first four seasons, I took somebody's projections & a little personal knowledge to do my draft. This year, I'm getting way more serious (and spending too much time on this board) and not knowing where I'll draft is giving me ulcers. Do most leagues have a system where you know your draft order prior to draft day?

This year, I'm getting way more serious (and spending too much time on this board) and not knowing where I'll draft is giving me ulcers. Do most leagues have a system where you know your draft order prior to draft day? This year we switched from a yahoo based league to another site, and with that comes a lot more options as far as scoring and lineups. So this year we are having a pre-season meeting 1 month before NFL starts to determine a draft date, collect league fees and rule review. I am thinking of drawing a draft order then, but it will have to be a majority of 7 owners who want to determine that.
Wildman 0 Posted June 24, 2006 In dynasty leagues, yes. In re-drafts I think it varies greatly. My local re-draft does the random selection of draft order approximately 3-4 weeks from the draft day. Other leagues may give a week notice and some handle it like yours--grab a beer, grab a seat, pick your spot from the hat. Even my local re-draft use to do it this way. mdubz 0 Posted June 25, 2006 we do a redraft so every year on draft day about 15 minutes before the draft starts, we pick cards (A through Q since it's a 12 teamer).
Traveler 2 0 Posted June 26, 2006 Yahoo leagues know about 30 minutes before draft. Keeper league we know at the end of the previous season. So, we know now.
Jackson Biggs 0 Posted June 26, 2006 we find out about 20-30 minutes before our redraft, but sometimes I wish we knew at least a week ahead of time. Knowing in advance really helps preparing for the draft, i suppose that can be good or bad. You can pretty much plan out your whole draft if you know your draft position, don't know if that takes the fun out of it or not??

However, since mine is a "for fun" league with most visible preperation being a magazine list, I'll probably have a tough time getting the other people to pick positions early. Thanks, everybody. jabarrettsr 0 Posted June 28, 2006 We know right away (following conclusion of previouse season). We draft based on the previous season's finish.
larrymcirish 0 Posted June 28, 2006 We know right away (following conclusion of previouse season). We draft based on the previous season's finish. I like this best & I've put out a feeler to a couple of teams to see if they would bite on it. What do you do if someone leaves the league. Does the new person just take their spot?
