Thank you. I’ve found, though, that non-partisan commentary is usually ignored here. Most posters here want to argue with the others who disagree with them. And, so, the effort to post in the political threads is seldom worthwhile for me.

We simply disagree about the main cause, but the here is no denying that the CIA interfered in the governments of a couple of central and south American countries. It is debatable how much that still affects them today. I wouldn’t be able to speak to that. Much longer ago the Spanish meddled far more in those regions and I think it is arguable that those people never have fully recovered from the Spanish.

You said previously that climate change is the #1 reason for illegal immigration. Is that the “conditions in Latin America” that you’re referring to? I deliberately avoid the political threads here so it is very possible I have missed it, but when have you argued that addressing the conditions in LA are the key to dealing with illegal immigration? To my knowledge, I’m the only poster here who has ever made that argument, though I’m not talking about climate change when I say that.

And focused on the wrong thing. Two days ago JD Vance gave a speech at the Paris AI Summit. In a nutshell, he said we need to take our collective foot off the brakes vis a vis AI regulation. He also said, disingenuously I believe, that automation will create jobs. I think this is malarkey. Be very thoughtful about the field of study you encourage your son or daughter to pursue. AI is coming for most. I harbor no optimism for the current generation of high school students.

It genuinely pleases me to be able to say for the first time that I feel ya. Anyone can criticize Trump for being an @ss and an oaf, but I would disagree that he wants to disenfranchise any group. I believe he genuinely wants any American to prosper. And what he’s attempting to do right now, to me, is to deliver what darn near every American wants— accountability for government spending. Let us both hope he can get the ball rolling in this term. One problem he faces is: will the media ever cover it from that perspective?
