Reduce government expenditures. Period. Reduce the use of tax revenue. Get the country in better fiscal shape for the next generation. Pain now, relief later. America pays the piper. Can’t keep saying “We’ll do it tomorrow.” To me, though, America is already over. It’s too late. We will never get a majority to agree to suck it up and suffer through the growing pains. I think you’re being disingenuous. There’s no way you fail to understand the pernicious effects of unchecked frivolous spending. My analogy is perfectly applicable. When struggling financially, one must examine all spending and cut back to the necessities.

Shouldn’t we all want waste, fraud and misuse addressed everywhere? I think that’s something we could all agree on. I’m in favor of putting everything under the microscope. When a family is failing and approaching bankruptcy and they decide to start budgeting, the small things matter. The wife can’t say “My Starbucks is a small part of our spending” and the husband can’t say “My sports betting is a small part of our spending” as if it isn’t all a part of the problem.

I keep hearing that funding to USAID is only 1% of the federal budget. That, IMO, is a distraction. It matters not what percentage of our budget it is. The important questions are: is there fraud happening? Is there misappropriation? Are the needs of recipients being weighed against the needs of taxpayers? Those are the priority questions. Having said that, we need more than inflammatory statements and hyperbole here. Expose the fraud and misappropriation and justify the funding cuts. Why does the US need to give $6B over the last decade to South Africa? Is SA not a sovereign country? Is it just to stymie SA’s friendliness with China? If so, wake up and realize it is not working.

What catches my attention is the reaction that goes kinda like this “Um, OMG, so we’re an org that gets this funding and now, due to the freeze, we don’t know if we’re gonna operate tomorrow.” As if they don’t have an annual budget and they just receive an EFT every day for their operating capital? If you’re an organization that will fold with 1 day of uncertainty about your future funding, then you might be telling me that you belong on the hitlist.
