Watching Stand By Me For The Umteenth Time
MLCKAA replied to BunnysBastatrds's topic in The Geek Club
Watched all of those several times. -
OK. It sounds like you would just prefer to see men play. That’s totally fine. I think I take women’s sports for what they are and don’t really view it through the lens of male comparisons. Why do that? We’re obviously better than them at everything. Speed and strength is just one of the many aspects!
-
I guess if you’re saying that the NBA players are the best players in the sport, then we probably just disagree about that and it creates a roadblock to the rest of the conversation. They’re the most athletic players in pro basketball, that’s for sure.
-
People like to say it’s a bad product, but it isn’t really. Sure, there are no dunks and the women are not as athletic as men in the NBA. To me, that’s part of the appeal. The NBA is garbage. At least the WNBA doesn’t rely on pure athleticism to the overall detriment of the game. And Clark is sensational. She’s a full level above the rest of the league. The thing that limits her the most is the inability of the people around her to play at her level.
-
And they did it ugly, which is a good sign with the postseason approaching. 7-3 in the last 10. I freely admit that I am only following because of Clark. I coached girls basketball with girls ranging from 3-7th grade so I have an affinity for it, but I never followed WNBA. But, it’s pretty cool having your local team have this phenom who is the focal point of the whole league.

Football is such a stupid game.

is timschoschet at war with the entire geek club?

I disagree with him frequently but get along with him 100% of the time. If you just talk to people with common decency, it isn’t too difficult to get along. -
Police in a suburban New York county have made their first arrest under a new law banning face masks
MLCKAA replied to edjr's topic in The Geek Club
I assume they’re saying that because they’re lumping immune compromised people in with the disabled, figuring the immune compromised are more likely to wear a mask even when others do not. My wife is immune compromised and she has never thought of herself as being disabled just because she has no spleen. -
If I were an NFL GM I’d be absolutely ruthless about these things. It’s true sometimes dudes play up to the pay, but stuff like this seldom pays off with a title.

Yeah yeah, I was just surprised to see so much of it being sold. -

I don’t mean to rabbit hole your thread, but recently I was perusing online WWII memorabilia sites. Over the last decade I’ve developed a keen interest in WWII and Vietnam history. These WWII memorabilia sites seem like thinly disguised Nazi fanatic sites. Seemingly 90% of what they sell is Nazi collectibles and I think they’re actually just serving the Nazi freaks on the down-low. -

Pretty cool -
Hitler was not dwarfed by Pol Pot. The khmer rouge was awful in its own right, though. And I think what you rightly illuminate is that there have been several dictators throughout history who have committed atrocities. Each has been distinctly horrible and perhaps comparison is both pointless and fruitless. Thanks for the conversation.
-
That’s a different topic. Unless you’re suggesting that Europe would be better off today if Nazis had taken over. But I don’t think that’s what you’re saying.
-
Dude, I was attributing the full WWII death toll to Hitler. 60-65 million is a widely accepted WWII death toll. You must have thought I was referring to just the Russian WWII death toll. Hitler was solely responsible for starting WWII and I attribute that entire body count to him. That’s what I was saying.
-
Good post. I’ve had some conversations surrounding this: if Hitler had focused all resources on the war effort and postponed the attempted extermination of the Jews, Germany likely would have taken and held all of Europe including the UK and part of Russia. Luckily for Europe, he didn’t have the foresight, self-control or humility to do that.
-
I’m certainly no defender of Stalin, but you’re incorrect. Hitler was not only responsible for the jewish holocaust, but also directly responsible for instigating WWII which led to at least 60,00,000 deaths with some people claiming as many as 75,000,000. The holocaust stands out among other genocides in history for the systematic and industrial manner in which it was carried out, among other reasons. What I find interesting is discussions about the Treaty of Versailles and the role it played creating the conditions for someone like Hitler to thrive and rise to power.

Ok, I’m at the grocery store. I don’t see you anywhere. Where are you? Should I go back home?
