  1. Probably the bear. If the woman were lobotomized, then *maybe* the woman, but probably still the bear.
  2. Spot-on comment about “overweight” by BMI standards! Started losing weight last July when I began paying attention to cholesterol. When I’d dropped about 20 pounds I found myself in the overweight category, and I didn’t disagree. The ridiculous part was that based on the BMI chart, I was gonna need to get my 6 ft self all the way down to 178# to get to “normal.” 178 on me would look like post-chemo.
  3. My wife (34C) has a terminal illness of an autoimmune variety. When she was first diagnosed in 2013 I always thought “terminal” meant “Ya dyin’ next week” but they use it to refer to any illness that will measurably shorten your life expectancy. So, she’s been in remission since 2014 and has done great. But she’s no longer in remission as of today. I’ve known all this time that it would happen and that we’d have to face hospitalization and treatment again, but I’ve been lying to myself about it. Feeling devastated.

    Wife No Longer in Remission

Thanks for the questions! The drug is fda approved. When she was diagnosed 2013 it had just been approved shortly before. Her hematologist was involved in trials and he and his colleagues had theories about alternative uses for it. Well, not really alternative uses but non-label ways of dosing it to generate slightly different results. It’s fascinating stuff. The beauty of having a university research hospital 20 minutes away! RE: only responding once… When she was diagnosed, they gave her steroids (Prednisone). That worked. 14 days later, it wasn’t working anymore. Numbers fell. So, they gave her steroids again and nothing happened. Then they gave her immune globulin. Numbers jumped up. 3 days later they fell back. Gave her the IG again, nothing happened. Current treatment seems to be working a second time. Doctor told us he’s engaged in a long term study on it. He believes that for some patients, the right dosage will disable the immune system’s destruction response. He’s studying to determine what variables exist in the patients who respond to it that way. I try to find just the right level of ambiguity on here because some of us are such utter dikkholes. I realize I’ve said enough that the properly motivated person could figure out what she has and what she’s taking, but I’m vague about those details deliberately.

    What is your net worth?

It feels good mostly because the high net is based on virtually no liabilities and because I know it means retirement is a certainty at a good age. Mostly, though, this is assets not a bunch of liquid COH. Within 5 years we’ll have huge decisions to make as my wife’s SARs roll in (cash) and they sell the ESOP, which will be just enormous for her. And me.
  6. I hear this and look at my own life. None of my friends or family members who are close to my age have died. But I do think about it and understand it’s bound to happen in my life soon enough. The father of my son’s teammate dropped dead from heart attack a year ago at only 44. Yikes.

    Wife No Longer in Remission

Last 2 rounds of bloodwork have been really promising. Numbers are very good. Only took 1 dose of the wonder drug to get things started. The real question is if these levels maintain or not, but we’re feeling super optimistic right now!

  11. Everyone should fear the police, though it’s typically not the uniformed patrol officers who are the problem. Make no mistake, though— you have every reason to fear interaction with the police.

Recommend a TV Series on Netflix

Really is difficult to watch. Is the tranny being portrayed by an actual tranny? The bewbs looked hella natural, so kudos to the surgeon. Could do with less narrating.
  14. If you were granted a wish and you wished to change hearts, eliminating racism, do you believe the problems of the black community would disappear with it? Your only genuine answer to this question must be NO. Anything else is disingenuous. And this hypothetical reveals the folly of your focus on racism. If it vanished today there would be only nominal improvement in the lives of blacks because it isn’t really the problem.
  15. In short, you’re not willing to consider a different perspective. That’s OK. Your first paragraph above, whether or not you realize it, is just illuminating that blacks, whites and others in poverty may display different symptoms of the condition. Blacks in poverty commit more violent crimes than whites in poverty. You can’t conflate the difference in the way people respond to a stimulus with the idea that they’re experiencing a different stimulus. The overwhelming social problem is financial inequality and racism pales so dramatically that it is irrelevant in comparison. Your passion is wasted on a myth. Wake up and use your considerable cognitive abilities to solve the real problem. The world needs you.
  16. You’re so close to understanding what ails America and so far from it at the same time. You choose the racial lenses. And it is definitely a choice. If you would just deliberately look at things without the lens of racism, you would see how income inequality and financial disparities are THE social problem in America. Everything else is a distraction. Unfortunately, you lap it up like a kitten at a saucer. You’re obviously a bright guy. Maybe you can convince yourself to look for something else in all of this. Just as an experiment in personal development, try to look at any of the social issues that anger you without questioning racial elements of the issue and instead considering how financial inequality influences it.
  17. Fighting? No, not if you mean trying to assault the officers. Floyd did not do that. Hysterical, uncooperative, irrational resistance describes how Floyd behaved.
  18. Regrettably, I watched the video linked. I see a guy misbehaving after fleeing an accident scene, seeming belligerent and then refusing compliance with simple directions from uniformed police officers. I see he was alive when the officers walked away from him. I didn’t see the officers do anything wrong.

    The ***OFFICIAL*** NFL draft thread

I think Drake Maye must’ve focked Merill Hoge’s mom or something. A month ago Hoge was out here calling Maye a loser and now he’s back at it again today. Wtf dude? Why is he obsessed with trashing Maye? He’s going out of his way to dis the kid.

  24. I haven’t read this whole thread, so I’m apologizing in advance if I’ve misunderstood something. Having said that, are you saying that you hope one day for people to regard use of the words “man” or “woman” the same way we perceive use of the word n***er?
