Why don’t I use biofuel? My company car isn’t an FFV.

One can argue that it drives up the price of food, but it’s a specious argument. True, farmers could be planting more food crops if they weren’t planting for biofuels so there’s a scarcity impact. But the corn planted for biofuel is not the same corn put on the table. Furthermore, the farmer gets a shockingly low return for his crops. The farmer I met yesterday is getting $4.40/bushel which works out to about $1,100 per acre. Most of the cost of food is post-commodity, so don’t be too quick to believe biofuels have a big impact on supermarket prices.

I met with a farmer yesterday who sells 575,000 bushels of corn to a biorefinery every year. He just finished drying his harvest Saturday.
