    Ordering fast food

Can you give examples of what you mean by "inability to order" at the drive thru? You mention asking about the beverage selection, but is not an inability to order. Rather, its an inability to quickly locate the beverage selection on those menus and I don't fault anyone for that. Does failing to say "that's all" get them labeled as UNABLE to order? I hardly think so. Hey-- is this really all you got going on? Wow, I would love to have your life where the biggest worry is that my wait in the Hardees drive thru was 30 seconds longer than I'd hoped.
  2. When we bought this place 3 years ago the marble patio looked fairly grungy-- cracks and gaps in the mortar all over the place, very dirty, mildew stained. Yuck. If the marble had ever been sealed at all, no one had ever maintained it. The stones looked really nice while wet, though, so we knew there was something cool down there under all the gunk. Cleaning it just removed the top layers, but the stones still looked grey and cloudy when dry. So, I went to them with a really strong cleanser and scrubbed the 140 sf by hand. Today I applied the first two coats of sealant. WOW. The first coat darkened them and made them look the way they do when wet-- all orange/bronze/rust/cream swirls. The second coat started to give it a glossy appearance. Tomorrow morning I'll do the 3rd and 4th coats of sealant and the patio is going to look like a million bucks.

A nice bit of home improvement

Yeah, I already thought about that a little bit because you can tell it might get slick. I was planning to put out some before/after pictures tomorrow when the final coat of sealant has gone on.

    Unfit parents

So, a friend of mine is pregnant. I've known her for about 13 years and NO, the baby isn't mine. As long as I've known her she's been pretty flighty. She's an artist and has never had a stable job. Her interest shifts from one medium to the next. In 13 years she has lived in Chicago, Seattle, Indy, Baltimore, DC, Bloomington (IN) and some little hick town. All of those moves were because she was "tired" of the city, not moves for opportunity or career. She was a lesbian (or living that lifestyle) until 2 years ago. She lost her virginity a year ago and now is pregnant by only the 2nd dude to ever nail her. So, I got an e-mail a few weeks ago and she told me she is pregnant. She went on to tell me that because of the pregnancy (not totally sure what that means) she quit the only promising & steady paying job she's ever had and moved back home to live with her mom and step-dad. Here's a rundown of her current status, heading into motherhood: * Single * 32 years old * unemployed * lives at home with parents * no health insurance * no career aspirations Here is the kicker-- she tells me the father of this unborn baby is excited and eager to be a parent, but she basically dislikes him and is trying to prevent him from having a part in the child's life. She told me he "annoys" her and she "doesn't care for him" at all and, so, has chosen to try to exclude him from the child's life. She even told me that because he is not a US citizen (he is a Nepalese buddhist here legally), she hopes he has no/limited parental rights. I am totally disgusted by it. I think it is one of the most loathesome things a person can do to keep a willing parent out of the life of their child. She is very excited about the baby herself, so how can she justify denying the rightful father of the same happiness? If this baby is a blessing to her, it is every bit as much a blessing to the father. What really throws me is that this behavior is so out of character for her. I have always known her as a very peaceful, kind, loving, fair, generous woman. Such a heinous decision is so unlike her. thoughts on how I should tell her that she is being a hideous skank?

See, this is what I figured. When she first told me she was pregnant and didn't want to have him involved, I assumed the explanation would be that he turns out to be thie major scumbag and she just didn't realize it at first. But when I asked her for an explanation she REFUSED to give one, saying that she chose not to explain and that she would make the right choices for herself and her baby. So, it leaves me thinking that if she had a legit reason then she would explain it to a friend. Instead she has stonewalled me about it. She senses that I disapprove and has basically been shutting me down since revealing the pregnancy. I'm still giving her the benfit of doubt, but all signs point to she is making a really selfish decision.

Oh, real nice. She's the Lipstick variety of ex-lesbian. A seriously attractive redhead. I got to kiss her and feel around on her once for like an hour and a half when we were younger and she hadn't gotten any affection in a while. Apparently she thought that fooling around with me was the next best thing to fooling with another woman. Doesn't say much about me. Anyhow, I'm really disappointed with the way she's acting with her pregnancy. Any advice?

Either this is a stupid comment or a wisecrack so brilliant that it went right over my head. Either is a reasonable possibility.

    French Open-- Men's Final

Yeah, I've never really thought the clay srface made a lot of sense either. Just because in some places people play on surfaces like that doesn't mean professional tourneys should be on it. I mean, I played on some dirt basketball courts as a kid but you don't see the Dirt B-Ball association forming anywhere.

    For those with kids

I always hear people say this, but I disagree. My daughter is a little over 2 now and I lover her so much I can't stand being apart from her. But the time hasn't flown by. I'd say exactly the opposite-- it has been the slowest 2 years of my life. Its all very good, though.
  17. Four meals per week prepared for us and we just reheat. I don't think they are gourmet quality, but the fact that someone else is doing the prep and clean up makes them pretty TASTY to me. Some of the stuff will need to be cooked by me because we asked for items for the grill-- marinated steaks and fish, specialty burgers and that kind of stuff. My wife and I would never be wasteful with money. We crunched the numbers and the cost of this ~should~ be less than we'd spend on dinner-related grocery items on a weekly basis. Just the same, I feel like I've joined the affluent!
  18. Do you mean it was a "rite" of passage? I thought you were an editor!! Anyway, you and TNG are talking about 4 yr old kids. My two year old isn't a whiz in the kitchen just yet. PS-- it looks like there is a tipped over bottle of tequila on the counter!
  19. I dunno. I guess if you're breaking down the price per person it comes to that. Bear in mind these aren't 3 course meals. Its just main entrees.
  20. Uhhhh...not to incur any who-wears-the-pants jokes, but I don't exactly remember and my wife paid the first month, so... We had options that were like $44/wk and $33/wk. I don't know which one we went with. I also love to cook, but evenings are pretty full and the prep and clean up is what sold me on this deal. I'll still cook some since we only get 4 meals per week.
  21. I did most of the cooking, so if she fudged it means she didn't like my cooking! Also, I just found out a wrinkle of the plan-- the meals aren't delivered. We pick them up once a week.
  22. I had trouble believing it myself. I left the numbers up to the wife, though. She's a controller for a manufacturing plant of a gigantic company. If she says she figured it, then she figured it. Besides, when I'm at home or outside of work, I just don't have the gumption to negotiate-- I do too much of it at the office.

If you could see your favorite band

Hum: You'd Prefer An Astronaut Radiohead: Pablo Honey John Denver: Just to see him would be enough-- no specific album Bob Marley: See note about John Denver Toad The Wet Sprocket: Any album. Pick one-- they're all superb Ryan Adams: Stone Roses (my selection for somethign more modern) FYI-- I'm seeing Toad The Wet Sprocket June 15th. They're doing a smattering of reunion shows.

    NBA Finals

Miami are completely outmanned against Dallas. The Mavs will take the title with relative ease. Miami can't match the depth of the Dallas bench and miami can''t match the skill of the Dallas starters. Mavs in 5.
