Attending first Stanley Cup playoff game

Cool- now there's some history on a sucky team. I was just a kid attending the pre 1970 games in Oakland. The sports complex there was a pretty huge deal for Oakland. The A's & Raiders in the Coliseum, and the Seals and Oakland Oaks in the Arena that shared the parking lot with the Coliseum. Anyone remember the Oakland Oaks basketball team from the ABA? Doug Moe was a star there- he later became a NBA head coach. And Rick Barry made a big stink when he went to the Oaks. I seem to remember Barry had to sit out for a while when he jumped leagues? The memory gets a little fuzzy going back that far. Well the Preds season is over. Hard to win playoff games when you can only score one goal. We were in the box. It was directly behind the goal, so good view of the game- and I had a cold one for you!

Local? South Bay, or Bay Area in general? Born in Oakland, raised in San Leandro. High School in Monterey County. All that was long before the Sharks arrived, but I did see hockey in the Oakland arena, Wat was it, the Golden State Seals? That was a long, long time ago.

NFL Draft Weekend Team Thread: Tennessee Titans

Vince had arrived in Nashville Saturday night, wasting no time joining the coaching staff. I'll take that as a good sign. Fischer said they will not rush him into action. I'll say the only way he sees action this year is if Voleck goes down. I just don't see how McNair can stay here- more than the money issue, he needs a multi year deal, and the Titans just cannot do that with the signing of VY. If White is indeed upset that he was passed up and went this late, he may well feel the need to show teams they were wrong to pass on him. 24 TDs and no fumbles last year? Titan's had 8 rushing TDs last year. This guy has the potential to make an impact, this year. I'm pretty excited about day one.

    Cancun

I'm headed out for Cancun next week. 5 day trip. Never been there before, never done the all inclusive resort deal either, so this is a first. I've been to Mexico City on buisness, and of course to TJ in my younger days. So- Any insight on places to go, "must see" or even "stay away from" advice from the Geeks who have been to Cancun? I understand Senior Frogs is a must. Other than that maybe a day shopping in downtown Cancun? Silver is supposedly the best deal I'll see there. With the all inclusive package, I may not leave the hotel very much. It's gonna beat the hell out of working.

    Cancun

I'm hoping the hotel is nice enough that I won't want to leave very often. Figure I've got to go downtown one day to do some shopping, and maybe to a club or two one evening. Royal Solaris is where I'm booked.

    Cancun

Cool- Thanks JK. Maybe someone else will jump in here. I've been busting my rump at work, haven't had a decent vacation in 10 months, so I was looking for a place to chill. Basically do nothing for a week and forget about work. Another question- what about internet service? I'm taking the laptop ad a dozen movies. Anyone got hooked up with the Mexican ISP for the vacation?

    Cancun

If you stayed at an all inclusive, was it all it's cracked up to be? Decent food and really free alchol? As for topless 15 yo's, I'm old enough to go to jail for just thinking about it.

So how are you doing with your retirement?

One of the biggest lessons from Enron would be HOW your 401K or retirement is invested. It's not a good idea to invest much/ most of yor retirement money in your company stock. The big reason why is, if the company goes south or tanks you get hit with a double whammy- your retirement savings is depleted AND you become unemployed. The deal with a 401k or an IRA is how it's invested. YOU decide how it's invested, and diversify to reduce the risk. It doesn't have to be 100% invested in agressive high flying single stocks, or in TBonds.

    Titan's Pacman Jones

Nashvilles WKRN TV reports Pacman Jones has been "linked" to a drug ring and to a seizure of 50 pounds of cocaine. Ok- this one is stretching it a bit- Pacman is an "aquaintaince" of one of the three people arrested in the cocaine bust. Local police spokesman Don Aaron would not comment when asked if Pacman was involved in the drug ring. Supposedly Pacman loaned a car to one of the three, "for a rap video." Pacman said he didn't know what they did with the vechicle while they had it. Gimme a break. Anyone got a link to this story? Link: http://www.wkrn.com/news/does-pacman-have-...e-drug-business Press conference scheduled for Friday.

    Titan's Pacman Jones

20 vechicles were seized, including Pacmans red caddy, with the Pacman logo embrodered in the headrests. Local news had a few minutes of film, where WKRN TV went to Pacmans home. Pretty classic. Among Pac's other brillant statements: You better get that damn camera out of my face. You can't prove sh!t. This is ####### private property. Can't you ####### read? You come back here, I'm going to slap you upside the head. Police stated "more arrests will follow."

    Craps

Playing the pass line, "with the roller" On the come out roll, 2, 3, or 12 is craps. All lose. (I like to play a $1 "Crap check" on the first roll as insurance) On the come out roll, 7 or 11 is a front line winner. I don't play the "Don't" even though there are time I should. Craps table can get ugly when you are betting against the roller. A decent bet is hard 4 & hard 10- It's either 2-2 or 3-1, or 5-5 or 6-4, and they're not a one roll bet. Also, play C & E on the come out, what is it 7-1 odds? When you "place" the numbers across the top of the table, you can bet $5 on all numbers, but bet $6 on the 6 & 8 for odds. Supposedly, the best bet in the casino is taking odds behind your pass line bet.

Rebuilt Engines and Transmissions....worth the price?

Unfortunately, "Rebuilt" is an overused term when selling a car. Could be they rebuilt the heads and never touched the short block, meaning you willl likely blow the rings. Or they changed rings due to smoking/ oil consumption, but never touched the heads. With a simple Chevy 350, it's cheaper to purchase a new "create motor" than rebuild your current engine. I'm always leery of the term "rebuilt". Unless you know the shop is reputable, and see all the receipts.

Fred, I used to live by Bell Road, Anderson Road area of Antioch. Moved to Lebanon about 6 years ago. Let's work on a Beer Seller meeting with Sho Nuff.

    Tornados

Some "good" pictures of the damage. They said it was the worst day- tornado wise- we've seen in 8 years. Fred, Sho Nuff, what part of Mid Tenn do you guys live? I'm out in Lebanon. We had one storm cell hit us about 4 pm, hard rain, pea sized hail, and steady lightening & thunder. Wilson County was pretty much spared, but Sumner County, right next door, got hammered. At some point we should consider a Mini Geekfest during the off season. Maybe at the Beer Seller one afternoon?

    Tornados

8 deaths in Sumner Country, just 20 or so miles north of me. Thats where the city of Gallatin was hit really bad. The footage from a helicoptor showed the damage where a tornado hit Volunteer State Community College tearing the roofs up and scattering cars around the parking lot, Across the street it hit 3 car dealerships and left cars and trucks on top of each other as well as damaging the buildings. It then hit a large subdivision where it did major damage, tore up a lot of homes, took off roofs, took off entire second floors and left piles of rubble where homes used to be. These were large brick homes. They showed metal power poles bent in half, tractor trailers overturned along the roads. Rough day in this area.
