I don’t, nor my family or friends receive SNAP. It won’t affect me at all. I am sympathetic because in the mid 90’s I used to get $149/month in food stamps. It was so very little and it wasn’t enough, even back then.

I was trying to illuminate that focusing on the percentage breakdown of immigrants receiving SNAP, the way it’s presented, is the same way they do with black Americans. I was pointing out that the way they give the statistics about immigrants shifts the focus of the reality. Very few immigrants make up the total of those receiving SNAP. But instead they say, 25% of immigrants receive SNAP, to make it seem like a big number. If you say the truth, if you give the facts correctly, it sounds like this: 1% of SNAP recipients are immigrants. You see how that stat is less tragic than 25% of immigrants receive SNAP.? Okay, I’ve beat the point into the ground. Thanks for giving it your attention. Bowing out now.

You all don’t see the shift? You start talking about black, black, black, black and then this poverty issue is shifted. It’s not about your brother or your father or your neighbor. It becomes distant and therefore not about you, it’s about those lazy criminals or undeserving immigrants over there. And then you don’t have sympathy and vote against giving help because you don’t want to help them in the projects over there. Jim Crow, blah, blah, blah…. Why is the pretty blonde girl on food stamps? Why is the blue eyed young man on food stamps? Why is the white family of 4 where the dad is working on food stamps? New Mexico has the highest number of its residents receiving food stamps. Talk about that. Oregon, South Dakota, Alaska, Oklahoma…. Discuss those people in those states.

But why is the second stat needed? This was my point about the chart about immigrants receiving SNAP and how this framing is also done when discussing the inmate population. Why the jump from the demographics of SNAP recipients do we then go to the population of that particular group in the United States? What is the purpose, other than to make the impact lessen the reality or switch the topic away from the fact that whites are the majority. Explain the purpose of the second stat….

I’m not going to quote you @Voltaire only to save space. The facts are always presented in a way to make it seem like white people aren’t the most. It’s the same with inmates and every other stat. Instead of looking at the numbers, let’s look at the percentages of the demographic and do all sorts of shenanigans to look away from the main point; whites are the most getting food stamps, welfare and are the most in jail. To put salve on the wound, the story is told this way: blacks have a higher percentage of their population on welfare, receiving food stamps and in jail than whites. Why is the stat told that way? If you then say, well whites are still the majority and that’s the reason why they are the most receiving benefits well then I am going to come back with well blacks were slaves for hundreds of years, denied income, land and education and until recently, quite unable to move upward in society due segregation and lack of resources to good education, health services and jobs. You don’t want to hear all of that anymore than I want to hear the convoluted way the stats are presented in order to dim the fact that whites are in fact the face of poverty and crime but politicians and the media has convinced the world otherwise, hence the entire conversation on the matter. Hence people talking about illegal immigrants getting handouts instead of their dad or sister. And I say all of this as a way WE should be unified. It’s like you guys are blind, election after election blind to your own needs. How do the poorest states that need the most help vote against getting help when in fact they are receiving the most help. Make it make sense!!

I have no idea what you all are getting mad at? You’re mad at facts? The thing is, you spent the first couple of pages clamoring on and on about how illegal immigrants or immigrants in general are the ones getting all the food stamps and are on the side of Republicans that want to curb food stamp benefits and here I come simply saying, hey morons, that isn’t true, whites are the ones mostly getting food stamps and red states are mostly getting government assistance. And you are saying I’m wrong. IDGAF. Believe me or don’t. Keep voting against your own interests! Keep believing the lies. You’ll see the truth soon enough.

You know, this is what society does to you people, they use percentages of the population of a specific demographic to skew the reality of who receives government benefits. SIR, I DON’T CARE WHAT STATISTICS YOU SHOW, THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT WHITE PEOPLE ARE THE LARGEST SEGMENT RECEIVING FOOD STAMPS AND WELFARE. PERIOD AND POINT BLANK. If there are 100 refugees from Qatar here and 25 of them receive SNAP, the graph will say 25% of Qataris receive SNAP. If you use that same logic then only 10% of the white population receive SNAP, but there are 200 million of you all!! Don’t hit me with the percentage of the individual population, that’s soothing your soul and a false way to look at the facts. WHITES ARE THE ONES MOSTLY GETTING FOOD STAMPS AND WELFARE, PERIOD!!!!!!! You won’t have to wonder after November 1st.

But you see, those poor people in red states have been blaming blue states for the problems and reasons this country is not great. They aren’t looking in the mirror. The poor in red states vote against their own interests! Let the truth be revealed!

I wonder about the senior citizens that are in their 80’s and up that actually worked hard all their lives but don’t have enough social security to pay increasing rent at their senior citizen’s apartment complex or assisted living that need the extra food stamps to afford food. Let’s see who is truly affected. Let’s see how those with young children and their older parents to care for hold up that depend on their parents getting social services so they aren’t stretched any further than they already are…. Let’s see how bold and brazen all those conservative Mormons with multiple wives with 10 and 20 children who completely depend on government assistance in order to exist: Let’s pull the sheets off of all!

I’m glad, I hope TANF, SNAP and Medicaid are all cut off. Even in this thread, comments like get a job flourish. Let’s see who the real poor are in this country. Let’s see who really suffers. For decades the face of the poor, the look of those asking for handouts has been one demographic. Let’s finally see the truth. I wonder what these states all have in common? Louisiana Mississippi New Mexico West Virginia Kentucky Oklahoma Arkansas (They’re the poorest.)
