Here are 2 rappers: Uncle Luke from 2 Live Crew and Trick Daddy and a classic rap song that came out the same year Lamar Jackson was born. All 3 were raised in the same metropolitan area (I think) in southern Florida and have a similar dialect and accent. If anyone has read what I wrote and still can’t understand my point of view of why calling a black person with a southern accent dumb and didn’t graduate kindergarten despite that person having a college degree and a career that requires intellect: a career formally denied to blacks for the exact reason that blacks didn’t have the intelligence to be a QB and Lamar Jackson manages to lead his team to the playoffs year after year… If you still can’t understand why it’s racist, you may need to step away from this topic and revisit it 10 to 20 years from now when your ego is ready to accept that it’s racism that makes you think it’s okay to call a black man dumb who clearly is not dumb. That only racism makes you think he sounds dumb.

Look, I’m just going to tell you guys that you can’t see it in yourselves but you’re doing what has historically been done to blacks, which is diminish a black person’s value and accomplishments by calling them stupid. I don’t care that Lamar doesn’t speak eloquently or doesn’t score high on a test. He speaks like the immediate surroundings of his upbringing. If he is speaking what you deem is improper or not standard English, either he cannot or will not. If he cannot, blame the history of segregation and housing in America. As he matures and his circle of influence gets wider he’ll begin to sound more like YOU. Maybe then you’ll stop calling him dumb? But know, it’s just a superficial trait and you’ve simply been ‘othering’ him. Which in short means you’re racist. Which I believe most of you are and I don’t care what you write to prove otherwise. To post for pages and pages why Lamar Jackson is dumb is thee definition of racist, imo. I’m not a Ravens fan and honestly, before this thread hadn’t really even heard him speak. FYI ‘Othering’ is the process of creating a distinction between an in-group and an out-group by emphasizing differences, leading to the stigmatization of the out-group based on stereotypes and hierarchies, ultimately reinforcing the identity of the in-group.

Trick Daddy and Kodak Black, like Lamar Jackson are from Florida. They all have a strong southern accent.

Your insecurity is showing.

Bottom line: He has a dialect that was created by the surroundings he was born into through no fault of his own. He’s not dumb because he hasn’t made dumb choices in life. She sounds smarter than a lot of you: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DECBSHKoCtR/?igsh=NXVwb3VqNDM0bXNm

Okay, fair. Just my opinion then. Be better.

I think there is a difference. It's like calling a black person a big-lipped ape or a chinese person ching-chong. You know? Saying Lamar is dumb or hasn't graduated kindergarten is like an old stereotype about blacks and we're all more sophisticated these days. Clownzo has no reference to anything except Trump's hair and behavior and the person's ill feelings towards him.
-
There is someone here who calls him clownzo and that is just so funny to me. You know, though, Trump himself is a funny guy. He says stuff off the cuff that at first sounds a little off or mean, but later, I'm like, that was correct and smart. Example: Fake News
-
Lololol, that was funny. Listen, Mike Tyson was and is scary. He literally frightens me: like this character.
-
What black men are those?? Btw, you're trying to change the subject.
-
You missed my point. I was trying to point out that Margaret Thatcher changed her dialect/accent in order to sound more elevated. That all societies have accents and dialects that sound proper or low class. She tried to imitate the upper British class accent. As for Lamar, he was poor and grew up in a poor neighborhood and in general we tend to consider southern accents as lesser elevated that northern accents. Yes, he speaks in a way that sounds uneducated, but he is in fact educated. He has a college degree, and he is successful. He has a dialect, that's it. It has nothing to do with his intelligence. Get over your bias.

I really like Sowell, I really do, as a matter of fact, I wish it was mandatory that everyone listen to him, but he is soft about some of the obstacles we've faced. However, this is a new day. The internet has really leveled the playing field and barriers that we faced before have been removed. I'm talking about the past. Things are really changing; I don't think minorities and whites for that matter are facing the same problems of the last century. It's a new day.
-
I don't, because he's a product of his time. He is right about many things but like Clarence Thomas and Jason Whitlock, spends too much of his time trying to prove something to white people and too often overlooking the obstacles and disadvantages blacks face and have to overcome. Yes, if we get good educations, stay in school, marry and go to work, blah, blah, blah... but forget all about the poor unsafe school and neighborhoods that we live in and cannot move out of due to racial impediments and how whites can effortlessly move through society in comparison...don't get me started.

I just wanted to crush the bonding over making fun of someone, not on my watch.

We're not British, and to us as Americans, many British accents sound smart (not all). We're not keen to it, but to the British, they do know and sort of peg people by their accents. There is a sort of hierarchy of accents. Rumor has it that Margaret Thatcher had training to make her voice sound more royal or elevated:
-
No, no, no...don't even try it, don't try to switch it, the argument is about Lamar Jackson graduating kindergarten, not every player, playa.
-
It's not racist to call a person of color dumb. However, calling a successful exceptional person dumb who you have witnessed with your own eyes giving interviews and hasn't exhibited ignorant behavior other than speaking in a way that has been stereotypically labeled inferior, is dumb.
-
Why am I even in your comment? The person you should be addressing is the OP. I clearly have explained why Lamar speaks the way he does; it's a regional dialect that reflects his segregated poor upbringing. I don't need Thomas Sowell, but you and the others here might need him.

I posted this so that you will try to see past a person’s general exterior. Stop being simple minded jerks.
