I haven't read any part of this thread, not even the OP's comment. I know I never wanted to buy a home and enjoyed renting. I'd saved up enough cash that I felt I could take some time off one day and just travel. I figured, even if I owned a home, eventually I'd want to go into some sort of senior living. Why not just keep saving my cash for that day instead of putting all my cash on a down payment for a home? But rental prices kept going up and up. The nicer apartments were very expensive ($2400/mo). Sure, my rent was affordable but that meant dealing with a certain type of neighbor: weed smokers, loud music, people that liked to fight or play loud music at all hours, theft and scary drug addicts and homeless people roaming about. I was getting older and renting seems to be young person's game in Atlanta. In New York or New Jersey, you can rent forever. People will rent in the same building for 25 years. Not so, in Atlanta, people eventually purchase homes. I don't have to worry about rising rent prices or changes of my apartment complex owners. I don't have to worry about nasty neighbors and their roaches. I can exercise and not worry about disturbing the person downstairs. I can decorate my home for the holidays and feed the birds and have peace and quiet or play my music loud (not too loud). I was a renter because of the freedom to move, BUT a young friend (34 years old) purchased her home in 2020 and sold it in 2023 and made a profit of $80K. You can buy a home and sell it and move. It's not the ball and chain I thought it was going to be.

A friend won a writing contest many years ago and could either get 7 Bitcoin or $250. He asked me which he should choose. At the time it had no real value so I told him to take the cash. I have felt guilty about ever since.

Iβm still holding my Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin. I was thinking I should sell them. Do you think theyβll ever go way back again?

I'm glad he is getting tried for this. That woman's life mattered. Just because we love Alec Baldwin as an actor doesn't mean he shouldn't stand trial for taking someone's life. If I accidentally ran over someone with my car I would have to stand trial for it. He is not above the law. For all we know, he killed her on purpose.

I have an old 2007 Honda Civic that I'm getting the power steering fluid replaced and the service people are recommending me getting cam shaft seal and something about a tie rod. What is that and is it necessary to fixed? They said something about transmission fluid leaking...

My credit card debt isn't a lot, a couple of racks. I own my car; It's an old 2007 Honda Civic. (See the thread about me getting it fixed.)

I'm going to let you know what they actually charged me for when I get the invoice. Thanks for your help!!!

Really???? Y'all....I thought I was in super debt. Like the house loan was the same as credit card debt. Let me just say that my Dad, nor my Mom owns or owned a home so I'm pretty ignorant. Thank you for helping explain this to me. It still feels like a super credit card debt. I feel totally overwhelmed by the amount I owe the bank. I feel I'm going to have to work forever to pay it off.

cash savings + stocks + retirement = $310K House worth today = $290K Amount of money I still owe the bank for the mortgage loan = $255K 310K - 255K = 55K 290K - 255K = 35K 50 + 30 = 80 (rounding)

Well...it's the Honda car dealership. I haven't found a good regular car shop. Actually, thanks for letting me know. I researched and found a good shop. I'll take it there for repairs next time. I've been too afraid to take it anywhere but the dealership. If you think I'm getting doubly over charged, then I'll take it elsewhere.

Principal Balance $255,410.15 Okay, thanks! I'm worth 80K

My car was starting to make a high pitch sound that I ignored for a while whenever I pushed on the gas. Then the sound got louder and louder. They said I need to replace my power steering fluid and that I have a bubble or something like that. They need to do a flush and/or change tubing or hoses. They said to do all of that with parts and labor = $1300. Then they said I should do the cam shaft tie rod things which would bring my total to $2100. I didn't want to pay all of that if it could wait. Besides, I may just buy a new car soon. I feel like I'm sinking my money into a pit. The car has lasted a really long time, but I put $3000 into it in 2023.

the outstanding mortgage balance is offset by your home's value.....in a net worth calcuation..... Honestly, I don't understand what you wrote. My home would sell for $290,000 today. I live in a tiny but cute shack.
-
I told them that I wouldn't fix it today but will keep an eye on it. Thanks guys!!!
-
Apparently, you guys don't know what a tie rod is either!

I was asked if I had any debts and I answered: I have some credit card debt. The main question this thread asked is what is your net worth. If I subtract my mortgage loan from my all my savings, stocks and my retirement then I have 50K left. What doesn't make sense? Unlike you guys, I don't have lots of money.
