A point I heard made which I thought was very good was this: We convinced Ukraine to give up their nukes in the 90’s. This is a good thing, right? Less countries having these. They are now seeing what happens without that threat. With us not sticking up for allies and leaving them to figure it out leads to them wanting their own assurances - nukes. No bueno.

Right just like all the other things that the chump Putin told us was WW3.

Then all this was for nothing. This will all play out again in a few years after Russia rebuilds their busted up military. I don’t see why they have such a strong bargaining position.

Trump has said NATO is off the table. Wasn’t committing to anything other than this mineral deal - which does seem like the start of a potential plan but when asked about any security guarantees it was we’ll see. That Ukraine is dependent on us is a fact, I just don’t understand why we talk all tough with these guys, with EU, with Canada, with Mexico. But Russia …nyet!

What is Putin giving up in this deal if Ukraine is not allowed into NATO? Ukraine gets no assurances that they just won’t do it again.
