IIRC Putin called Trump “brilliant” back in like 2016. Trump got a man boner about it and talked about it. A Russian language expert pointed out the translated word that Putin used, like much Russian, was more nuanced and it meant more shiny / flashy like a gaudy piece of jewelry. This was lost on Donald of course.
