https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/20/investing/us-stocks-walmart-outlook/index.html Get ready for hard times ahead. Some of us tried to warn you that these tariffs were going to cause a lot of pain and ugliness. And it’s only just beginning…

Probably because, unlike Pirro, he hasn’t slept with Trump. I kid I kid. Steve Doocy may very well HAVE slept with Trump… -

No because Hitler escaped on April 30; by May 8 he was safely ensconced in Buenos Aires. -

President Trump has declared today, May 8, a national holiday, celebrating the end of World War II. May 8 is, of course, V-E day: the war ended in Europe. For our soldiers and sailors in Asia (including my great uncle who, having survived the Bataan Death March, was a POW in Japan) the war went on for 4 more months with some of the bloodiest fighting still ahead. I don’t mind a holiday for this but Trump needs to change the date to August or he’s dishonoring their sacrifice, IMO. -

That’s a good point if you’re right. Hoping it’s more than that but it wouldn’t surprise me if you’re correct about this. -
I’m certainly no expert like he is but I don’t see how he can make this assumption. Again it all comes down to a quick resolution of our embargo on China. Unless Trump backs down we’re staring at stagflation in the face and that has to being down the stock market with it. And the clock is ticking…

It’s just amazing to consider how much more prosperous we would be right now if Trump hadn’t killed the Trans Pacific Partnership during his first term. I doubt whatever deals we get trying to extricate ourselves from this current disaster will be anywhere close to the benefits we would have received from that one. The TPP literally took decades to negotiate, it would have forced China to make all the concessions we desire simply in order to compete. Trump destroyed it with the stroke of a pen. So stupid. -

Any trade agreement with a major partner that lowers tariffs will benefit the USA. I don’t think this will be especially significant compared to China and the Pacific Rim nations, but it should still be a benefit. -

That won’t help with the goods we normally import from China. UK doesn’t import them. India might have helped… -

I used to argue with liberals all the time that when the government interferes with the marketplace, it’s never big business that is hurt; they can always absorb the extra costs and restrictions. It’s small businesses that can afford it and what inevitably happens is that the small businesses are ruined and the corporations get more powerful, exactly the opposite of the goal the liberals were trying to achieve. I still very much believe this. I never thought I would have to make this argument to conservatives. But here we are. -

Trump is promising a major trade deal announced tomorrow morning. India? We’ll know soon… -
So long as there is hope of a China deal, or at least a de-escalation, the market should be OK for now, even though the economy as a whole won’t be. If weeks pass and there is still no deal with China….

This isn’t helpful. If you disagree with the articles we are reading that say trucking is in trouble because of the tariffs (and these articles are numerous), tell us why they are wrong. I’m honestly not trying to argue with you here. If they’re all making an error I want to know what it is. -

As well they should; it means much higher prices and scarcity for most household items. It means less work for truckers, shippers, retail. It’s pain we absolutely don’t need, and it affects every segment of the economy. -
Nope, I did make an appointment. What’s changed is how long it takes with an appointment.

4 hours at my local DMV a few weeks ago, basically lost the entire day. Now I heard this morning that they’re not even enforcing it; if you don’t have it they just ask a few more questions and you’re good. Lol

Ah. Gotcha. Of course taxes raise prices. Of course any liberal who denies that is a hypocrite. All tariffs are are sakes taxes on foreign goods (effectively) -
