The old Israel Gaza thread seems to be missing (in any case I can’t find it) so I started a new one. Apologies if I missed it. In any case: 1. I believe the current Israeli government is guilty of genocide in their systemic, deliberate starvation of the Palestinian people in Gaza. 2. I support the Israeli government doing an about face here and, as of today, allowing humanitarian aid in. This will save lives. Point #2 is a big part of the reason I continue to support Israel and see them as good guys. Good countries, including the United States, have committed bad acts. We have committed genocide ourselves in the past. The difference is when we do bad stuff we try to to fix it, we acknowledge our mistakes and wrongdoings, we try to make amends. My right wing friends think Israel can do no wrong. My left wing friends think Israel is evil. Both are wrong. Hamas is evil. Israel is a good country who sometimes does bad things. That being said, Netanyahu is a bad man who needs to be removed from office and probably charged with war crimes.

No I’m pointing out the absurdity of the argument that greater armed force leads to less crime. Of course it does. It also leads to more authoritarianism, less individual liberty. Generally the price is too high. I do not equate the National Guard to the Gestapo. I DO however equate ICE, under Trump, to the Gestapo. I think that’s a reasonable analogy, given ICE’s willingness to break or subvert the law, wear masks, arrest innocent people, etc.

Don’t even try to challenge me on history dude. You’ll lose every time. I’ve forgotten more about history than you’ve ever learned, given the insipid arguments you’ve offered in this forum on most subjects you post about.

Yes. I was simply being hopeful that this ruling is upheld. Seriously don’t you think it SHOULD be upheld? Put aside your partisanship for the moment, or you views about tariffs or Trump. This is about whether or not the President should be able to perform roles that the founders laid out for Congress.

Correct. The Constitution gave this role to Congress. Trump is relying on a law that allows the President to do it in a time of emergency. There is no emergency.

First off, sorry but I’m not going to take your opinion over those of medical experts. Simply saying that you know what a man or a woman is” has nothing to do with mental illness. It’s not a topic I am able to discuss intelligently anymore than nuclear physics; based on your comments you aren’t either. Second: you may very well be right that this issue had a significant effect in the last election. But in terms of trying to predict future elections I would caution you: remember that a big reason George W. Bush was re-elected in 2004 was opposition to gay marriage, but ten years later attitudes have changed. The key to questions regarding cultural political questions is not what the public at large thinks today, but what those under 30 think. And every poll and study suggests they are far more accepting of what the experts tell us.

First off the best solution is more gun control, specifically restricting mentally ill people from purchasing guns. Second, iits not for us to argue whether or not transgender people are mentally ill. That is for health experts to decide.
