  1. It’s more fascinating that like so many others around here you challenge the source of any news you don’t want to hear.
  2. Are the children allowed to stay in this country? Because if not, they’re not being “rescued” at all.
  3. Loving the judge’s decision. And even better: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/07/11/immigration-poll-gallup-trump-deportations/ New Gallup poll: 79% of Americans view immigration positively. 78% of Americans want a path to citizenship for the vast majority of undocumented immigrants who are not violent criminals. The tide is turning.

    Here come the tariffs

What do you expect to happen if these tarrifs actually go into effect? Do you share Donald Trump’s ignorance of economic reality?

    Here come the tariffs

Just stop with the nonsense. It is never time to panic. And I don’t use words like Armageddon. What you’re doing is trying to paint me as a fear monger so as to discredit my arguments without having to actually address them. Which is how a third grader or a troll responds to news he doesn’t like. The more tariffs we have, the likelier the chances of greater inflation without economic growth- which means stagflation and recession. The last time we had that was the early 70s. That was a bad time for our economy- lots of layoffs. This will be worse. I am confident that it will not reach the level of the Great Depression (1929-1935) mainly because I expect Trump to back off long before it gets that bad.

    Here come the tariffs

Do you have trouble reading with comprehension? I wrote that things would be VERY bad IF Trump ever stuck to his guns and kept up high tariffs on our main trading partners (Canada, China, Mexico, the European Union) without backing off. I also wrote that nobody expects Trump NOT to cave. Do I need to repeat it again for you?

    Here come the tariffs

So the deal with the tarrifs remains unchanged: 1. If Trump actually goes through with any of this for any length of time, things are going to be VERY bad. 2. if Trump continues to back down or delay, as Wall Street now believes he will, things won’t be AS bad. But the tarrifs that are already in place will result in higher prices that will hurt American consumers without any positive effect. This pain will start to be noticeable sometime in late summer or early fall, and REALLY be noticeable by Christmas time. 3. If Trump can use his tarrif threats to actually achieve new trade deals that result, long term, in LOWER tarrifs on both sides then this whole thing could ultimately be a positive. Other than Trump completely backing down this seems like the most hopeful outcome but I’m not holding my breath. 4. The main stated goal of the tariffs: to return manufacturing to the USA- is unachievable IMO. This has been my stance, and the stance of most people trying to look at this situation rationally, since January, and it remains unchanged, so you guys can stop with the “what happened to you predicting the economy would crash?” questions. THIS is what I predicted.
  8. We’ll see: I’m hoping the SC upholds the 14th Amendment.

    Texas flooding terrible, tragic

Then we should defund the police? Your argument here really doesn’t hold up.

    Texas flooding terrible, tragic

The main problem with your arguments is that Republicans never use a chisel. They cut with a large sword. They slash percentages. They’re not careful. Essential people always get tossed out with the unessential (usually the essential ones get tossed out first; unessentials are always good at protecting themselves.)

    Donald Trump blasts Bruce Springsteen

Is this the same Bruce Springsteen who is paying for all the funerals from the Texas flood?

    Here come the tariffs

He seems like a nice guy to me but unfortunately he doesn’t seem to understand economics whatsoever.
  14. That’s for the Health Department to figure out. Not ICE. ICE should stay away.
  15. So even after all of the disasters and awful decisions Trump has a chance to be a decent President: 1. He appears to finally be realizing that Putin is playing him and he’s moving to firmly support Ukraine. Better late than never. 2. He keeps talking about softening the mass deportation fiasco, limiting it only to actual violent criminals, and allowing the vast majority of undocumented immigrants to stay. 3. Most of his tariff threats have, SO FAR, been huge bluffs; everytime he hits a deadline he backs down. If these three trends continue forward, I will be satisfied. Still don’t like the guy, could never vote for him, but at least our country will continue to be moving in the right direction overall.

    Ukraine - Doomsday

Trump finally realizes he’s been played by Putin for years? Reminds me strongly of Neville Chamberlain finally waking up in March of 1939 after Hitler invaded Prague, realizing that he had been made a fool of. Trump’s got less excuse than old Neville but hey at least now we’re starting to move in the right direction.
  17. So do you. So does everyone reading this.
  18. THEY'RE ALL CRiMINALS!! DEPORt THEM ALL! it’s hard to argue with mindlessness. It’s probably not worth it to try. Best to treat it like a bad storm- just let it run its course and hope the damage isn’t too great.

Brianna Wu: If I were in charge of the trans movement...

Since you accuse me of doing this I’m sure you’ll provide an example of when I’ve done it.
  20. Much like Peter Pan and the Seven Dwarves, you apparently live in Fantasyland.
  21. When you brag about being ignorant it doesn’t make anyone seem dumb but you. HTH
  22. Nope. I employ former slaves who are now freedmen.
  23. And usually accurate. Seriously you’re a thoughtful guy and I enjoy reading your posts though of course I often disagree with you. But your biggest flaw IMO, going back a few years now, is your dismissal of all polling. Polling is a science. It’s an inexact science but a science nonetheless. It’s far more accurate in predicting results than not, something like 60- 80% of the time, if it’s one of the respectable poll companies. I know we focus on the exceptions when the polls get things wrong but that’s what they are: exceptions. The most negative study ever down of polls is from 2020 and found that they were accurate only 60% of the time: https://alumni.berkeley.edu/california-magazine/online/election-polls-are-only-60-percent-accurate-which-0-percent/ But even that is still most of the time.
  24. And let’s be clear about this: in the long run you will NEVER be able to convince people not to come here illegally because no matter how bad you think you make the conditions, they will still be infinitely better than where they’re coming from. All we’re doing right now is satisfying people who enjoy cruelty- that’s it. In the long run we are not reducing the number of undocumented immigrants- we never will, unless we (a) improve their lives in their home countries (b) and have a much more open and fair legal immigration program. And even if we could do it, even if it wasn’t terrible for our economy, it would still be as unjust and immoral as rounding up runaway slaves in the North before the Civil War (yes that is an apt and proper analogy.)
