Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill”
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
Hardly. You’re lying to yourself if you think you’re better off. That or you’re simply not smart enough to see the truth. -
January 6, 2021. A group of angry almost all white extremist insurrectionists attacked the Capitol Building, pissed off that that their racist hero would no longer be President. They were especially violent towards black police officers and used the “N” word as they attacked.

Why are liberal Democrats hurting so badly these days?
The Real timschochet replied to seafoam1's topic in The Geek Club
Personally I’m doing great. The best thing about progressivism is that it always wins in the end. Thats the history of human civilization. All progressive ideas eventually win out. For every two steps backwards, we soon take 4 steps forward. For many of you reading this, your parents railed against gay marriage (or maybe you did.) Some of your grandparents argued against racial equality, and your great-grandparents were against immigrants from Ireland, Italy and China. As I write this I am very confident that your grandchildren, in turn, will be accepting of transgender changes among teenagers and treating all trans people with respect; they will not view it as a mental illness. Further your grandkids will be much more tolerant of undocumented immigrants and globalism in general. We move ever forward. -
This is so true. I highly recommend reading the book White Rage by Carol Anderson. It would certainly open up some eyes in these parts. Almost every race riot in the history of this country has been started by angry white dudes AGAINST black people.

You’re arguing that Trump’s tax cut has nothing to do with inflation? -
Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill”
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
I already did. I wrote that your tax break does not make up for the fact that your spending power is less. You’re actually worse off now than you were then. Financially you haven’t benefited. It shouldn’t be too difficult for you to verify if I am right about this though only you can do it: first, compare your net annual income in 2017 (when the first bill passed to now.) Second, compare average prices in 2017 to now. I am betting that any benefit you received specifically from the tax cut is inconsequential compared to the increased costs that you spend now on household goods. But you tell me. -
Several SCOTUS decisions coming out today.....

MIT was founded in 1861. So 1985 is still relatively new. Go back a little farther (before the woman’s lib movement) and check the percentages. -

@supermike80: Here, above is a racist argument. You didn’t make one, this guy did, when he wrote “there was never anything wrong.” I get accused of calling everyone who disagrees with me on issues like this racist. That is not so. I think it’s actually rather easy to distinguish the racist arguments from the non-racist ones. -

I don’t believe it’s racism. But…I’m been a little disingenuous here because I also don’t believe it works, at least not at the college level. I don’t believe in affirmative action/DEI, not because it’s racist (I strongly reject that argument) but because, like so many other government programs, it creates more inefficiencies than it solves. You can’t solve racism at the college level. Returning to the topic of Justice Jackson: she is actually much more of a victim of DEI than she is a beneficiary: because it causes so many of you to suspect that she is unqualified which is completely unfair. -
Am I? If you don’t want to take the second or two it would take it Google it, why not ring up the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce and ask them?

Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill”
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
Not at all. I cited MAGA because my point is that they will support anything Trump does no matter whether it’s good for them or not. If you disagree with this statement, you’re welcome to provide an example or when it hasn’t been so in the last 10 years. -

Serious question from a non-Christian: Why do images of Christ and Mary only appear among Catholics? Why does this never happen among Protestants? -

Of course. ETA - actually it could be argued that some very rich people get richer. Though even that’s debatable, since being rich only improves you if you live in a relatively secure society. And stuff like this creates instability. -

OK? Even if this is true, (I have no idea) it doesn’t begin to make up for the fact that throughout most of MIT’s existence, almost 100% of the students were white males. Why is an attempt to rectify that sad fact just a little bit still unfair? (So long as the applicants are all qualified.) -
Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill”
The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
Sure. Anything that increases the debt this much (estimated 5 trillion dollars) shrinks the value of the dollar. Your spending power will be considerably less over time. The continued tax break you think you’re getting won’t make up for it. -
Nope. I don’t answer to you. Look it up if you’d like. Plenty of articles on this out there.

As for the MAGA crowd, many if not most of them will be financially worse off but since this bill sticks it to undocumented immigrants they don’t care. They also want to make liberals cry. -

The Real timschochet replied to The Real timschochet's topic in The Geek Club
My understanding is that, very cleverly, most of the pain caused by this bill begins AFTER the midterms. Meanwhile there is a temporary tax reduction for Social Security which starts immediately but goes away…after the midterms. So transparent. But who knows, it might work. As old Abe said, the people CAN be fooled some of the time. -

First off I have never once argued that those who are well off didn’t earn it. That is true for most people. If you have worked hard all your life and done well as a result more power to you. You needn’t be ashamed of it. In my own case I don’t really talk about it too much because it’s no one’s business but mine. It’s true I inherited my firm from my father but that was after working with him as #2 for over 30 years, during which time I contributed greatly to the expansion of our business. Nothing was simply handed to me. But my point is this: when I speak about white privilege I am not arguing that white people are simply handed things that others are not. I am suggesting instead that we have opportunities to succeed that many minorities do not; they begin, in general, at a lower rung on the ladder. That doesn’t mean they can’t succeed. Nor does it mean that every white person will succeed. All it means is that it isn’t an even playing field. Liberals as a general rule seek government intervention to try and make it a little more equal. But conservatives fight us on every attempt. -

The use of the term also assumes that any white person in a similar position must have achieved it through merit- which we all know is total bullsh!t as well. -

The Real timschochet replied to Strike's topic in The Geek Club
Nope. The answer to your question is that there is an inherent assumption among bigots that black people aren’t as smart as white people. And when you label someone a “DEI hire” you imply that they aren’t qualified for their position but only achieved it for to their race. -
Reading last night that the Canadian boycott is killing Nevada. 30% of Las Vegas tourism is from Canada. Or was.
-
It does in a Communist society. That’s why the comparison is so lame.

The Real timschochet replied to Strike's topic in The Geek Club
I mean think about it. Almost all of you whiners about DEI, here and elsewhere, are white males. Of the 116 Supreme Court justices in our history, 108 have been white males. And this percentage is pretty much the same in nearly every other aspect of our society (major team sports being the only exception, only recently, and only because it’s the the only industry that is truly merit based without institutional racism, amd that’s true only for the athletes.) So all of you privileged whites reading this, stop b!tching about racism against white people. You don’t get to. Ever. Just go about your lives and maybe feel guilty a little bit sometimes for those who don’t have what we have and maybe try and even the odds a little. No matter how much we try we’ll never even them enough. -

1. DEI isn’t racist. 2. If you belittle someone by describing them as a “DEI hire” YOU are being racist. 3. Biden was not racist nor sexist for wanting a qualified black woman on the Court. The racist and sexist part is that, in the whole of the Court’s existence, there have only been 3 blacks on the Court and 6 women. Until numbers like those change significantly in all aspects of our culture, affirmative action and DEI will be absolutely necessary.
