Putting aside all the stuff that doesn’t really matter because it won’t ever happen, I wanted to talk about one of Mamdami’s leftist ideas that according to polling is really popular among NY voters: rent control. It doesn’t work. Santa Monica has had it for 40 years. Here’s what happens in a nutshell: tenants never leave. And there’s lots of corruption: tenants with deep pockets claim poverty, then sublease the premises for double or triple the rent. The landlord is helpless. This is an example of a socialist idea that simply works against what it’s intended to do, (Actually I believe that’s true of most socialist ideas.) It’s why I could I never be in love with this sort of candidate; I’ll only support leftists if my alternative is a Trumper.

You’re right that’s a big reason I like him. I want more public officials who defy Trump. As mayor of NYC he can do a lot to interfere with ICE in particular and that seems like a very good thing to me. His platform is that he’ll run NYC as a liberal mayor. The rest of his supposed platform is meaningless because he has no power to enact it. in truth I don’t particularly care who the mayor of NYC is. It’s a fine city and I enjoy visiting but I don’t live there and never will. I just want more public figures standing up to Trump and I want more elections where the Democrat is chosen, We need to do that until this MAGA sickness is finally defeated.

You’re not. You and others keep insisting that there is no difference, that we already live in Martin Luther King’s dream. We don’t. There is still tons of white privilege. I agree. That’s why I wrote “borderline.” I think that’s accurate. It’s certainly not the “definition” of racism (like calling someone a DEI hire.) The truth is it’s very difficult to be racist against whites in our society. It’s not impossible, there ARE rare examples from time to time, but it’s difficult, because whites have so much privilege and control of all the power structures. Those that spend their time almost exclusively focusing on (almost always mythical or way overstated) racism against whites, such as our President, and those who support him doing so, are usually often guilty of racism themselves IMO.
