Now Trump is in the Situation Room as I write this. Yesterday Trump wrote that ANY retaliation by Iran would be met with “TOTAL DEVASTATION”! But I didn’t believe him. Still don’t. I expect the return of TACO Trump. That’s what we need. Deescalation.

Why do you lie? I said that if they were truly crazy they might do that, and I was concerned about it. But I also wrote it was unlikely. You are one of the biggest liars here.

You just wrote there won’t be any retaliatory strikes. Now you’re predicting we’re going to retaliate. You’re wrong both times, and you have no credibility.

Nope and you’re not going to get one either. This was performative. Iran told both the U.S. and Qatar beforehand (per the New York Times.) It’s symbolic, for show. Now both sides stand down. Best possible news.

So I’ve been thinking about this all day and reading different opinions, and I’ve come to the conclusion that President Trump made the right choice. That could change if I learn more I don’t know right now. But based on what I know it was the right decision.

There is nothing wrong with wanting regime change in Iran. All people of good will should hope for it and I have no problem with Trump calling for it. More power to him. If he attempts to use the American military to bring that about that’s different and I think I would oppose that. But there’s no sign of that yet.

I think we can all agree that if Iran closes Hormuz it will be worse for them than for anyone else, so hopefully that will be reason enough for them not to do it. Of course the same reasoning applies to nukes: if Iran had nukes and used them they would be immediately obliterated. So why don’t we want them to have nukes? Because there is a chance, a reasonable chance, that they truly are crazy motherfockers and would use them anyhow. And if that is true they just might close Hormuz anyhow. We will have to wait and find out.

It’s done now anyhow.

The reason that Biden and Obama (and Bush and Trump in his first term and Clinton) didn’t attack Iran is because they were worried about this EXACT threat- closing Hormuz.

I don’t understand your point here. If they close Hormuz we would likely have to send our navy in to open it up. Meanwhile the price of oil goes through the roof and the stock market crashes. It would be 1973 x10 (look it up if you don’t know about 1973.) Do you get this at all?

Closing the Strait of Hormuz isn’t “some pain”. It would be a terrible thing for us (but arguably worse for Iran so hopefully they won’t.)

They haven’t done it yet, they’ve voted to do it but it’s up to the Supreme Commander (Khameini.) Hegseth says he’s confident they won’t because of China. But it’s what I was concerned about all along. Let’s hope Hegseth is right for once.
