I actually hope you’re right. Here is my best hope: Trump announces trade deals with India and a few other countries next week and then, very quietly, allows the tarrifs with China to lapse and enters negotiations. Then the pain will hopefully not be terrible and by the late summer we MIGHT recover. Maybe. All the MAGA folks will gloat and call it a huge win but I don’t care. The point is we’ll be back on track. If this doesn’t happen we’re totally screwed. Even if it does happen it may already be too late to avoid a major downturn.

Since you quoted me I should clarify that while you correctly stated my position, I don’t see it as a “play”, or part of any game. It’s based on a core belief of mine: everybody gets due process, no matter how inconvenient. Whether or not one is American is irrelevant to me since I regard due process as an inalienable human right. Any country that regularly deprives anyone of due process is by its very nature a criminal state.

You also know very well that Trump’s new tariffs on Canada had NOTHING to do with Canada’s remaining tariffs on us, which makes @Hardcore troubadour’s argument nonsensical. Yet you hammer on this point because it’s more important to you to try and “prove” that I’m a liar than to have a real discussion about the topic. This is one reason of many why, like the dude you voted for, you’re not a serious person.

I wrote “no tariffs” because they’re small enough to be almost insignificant. In any case we did not put tariffs on Canada as a retaliation for their tariffs on us. We put them on because of some ridiculous argument about fentanyl, and because of Trump complaining about trade deficits (because he doesn’t understand economics.) Your entire premise is false.

No. They didn’t. Are you aware of the U.S. Mexico Canada Trade Agreement (negotiated by Trump)? And before that NAFTA?

The Supreme Court has already disagreed with you on this.

Feel free to push for this if you wish and see how far you get with it. In the meantime we need to abide by the Constitution as written and interpreted by the Supreme Court.

And also if this is the case then why have we imposed tariffs on several countries who didn’t have tariffs on us? (For example Canada.)
